Crystals serve many great purposes, they do a lot of hard work and need to be taken care of. When you first receive crystals, you must cleanse them before using them in your magical workings. This article will provide you with multiple methods for the maintenance of such. Remember, all crystals are different and some methods shouldn't be used for particular crystals.
Cleansing with Water
Cleansing crystals with water is one of the most common methods of cleansing. Some individuals even add salt to water, but some crystals do not do well in water or salt.
How to use this method:
Get a clear glass and fill it with water, however do not just fill it with any type of water. Try using spring water, lake water, ocean water, moon water, blessed water, etc. Place your stone in the water and allow it set over night. Once your done make sure you discard the water, do not reutilize it, even for other crystals.

- Azurite
- Calcites (all types)
- Halite
- Imperial Topaz
- Kunzite
- Kyanite
- Lapis Lazuli
- Malachite
- Moonstone
- Opal
- Pyrite
- Selenite
- Turquoise
Cleansing with salt
Salt is a great cleanser, but try to only use sea salt. If you'd like, you may also use pink and/or black salt.
How to use this method:
Fill a bowl with at least an inch of sea salt, then set your crystals in the salt. Let them set overnight and when they are finished, give them a quick rinse. Don't forget to dispose of the salt.

Cleansing with sunlight
When you can't cleanse with salt and water, sunlight is a powerful alternative. Sunlight both cleanses and charges crystals.
How:
You can set it on your window or even outside in the daytime. Make sure you let it set for 1-7 hours.

- Colored Calcites
- Fluorite
- Kunzite
- Rose Quartz
- Smokey Quartz
Cleansing with moonlight
All stones love Moonlight, but their favorite moonlight is from the full moon. Just like the sun, it cleanses and charges.
How:
Set the stone in your window or outside. You can let it set overnight.
Crystals that do not like moonlight

Cleansing with visualization and energy
This method is very common and a personal favorite of mine for methods of cleansing.
How:
Set the crystal on the ground or on your hand. Next hover your power hand - the one you write with - over the crystal. Close your eyes and visualize pure energy coming from the ground, into your body, and out your hand into the stone. Visualize the negative energy pushing out and fading away as it is filled with pure clean energy. You should feel a tingling sensation in your body or your hand when it's finished. Now you have a cleansed and charged crystal.

Cleansing with the Earth
Crystals come from the Earth. That is why this is a great method for crystal cleansing and it is also very easy.
How:
You can set your stone in dirt, glass, by a tree or in it. If you choose to bury it, you may want to wrap it in a cloth so they don't get damaged. Let them set overnight or for 24 hours.

Cleansing with Reiki
Reiki is the same as cleansing with energy. Reiki is using energy to heal, but symbols are also used in Reiki.
How:
I can't really explain this one as it requires pictures. Try googling "Reiki symbols for healing and cleansing".

Cleansing with herbs and smoke
Using herbs and smoke for cleansing is very easy.
How:
The best herbs for this method are sweet grass, sage and rosemary. You can burn a bundle, use an incense or burn them by using a disk of coal. Frankincense, myrrh, or dragon's blood as an incense or resin, will also work well. Burn the herb of your choosing and run the crystal through the smoke in circular motions. You should feel a tingling sensation when it is finished.

Cleansing spray
If you are not able to use matches for some reason, a cleansing spray will do the trick.
How:
The best herbs for this spray would be sweet grass or sage, if you would like you can add a dash of salt. Fill a glass with some clean water and add your herb. Set the glass in sunlight to charge 3 hours or more. Once it's done, remove the herb. Now you can add your tincture to a spray bottle. Spray 3x on the stone you wish to cleanse.

Cleansing with crystals
This may sound strange but there are crystals that are self-cleansing and can even cleanse others.
How:
Citrine and clear quartz are the best crystals for the job. You can keep them together or use its energy to cleanse your crystal. I like to set some stones on a copper plate, then add four citrines on each corner. Copper amplifies the citrines power and is a cleanser itself.
