I was preparing for a spell, and noticed I am missing one item. A red felt tip pen. I have the rest of the items that is required. Could I use a red oil crayon and pencil instead?

Also I was wondering if you had to use items listed or if you could use a candle engraved with main purpose and use a "chant" from another spell? (I think I explained that right)

In my opinion, you can use anything that represents the original item. It doesn't matter if it's that specific type of pen, all that truly matters is that the redness from the ink dwells power in the desire or change you are trying to evoke. Hope this helps. Blessed Be!

I think it has to be the item the spell calls for. About the second question I am going to say yes.

My old high preistess would say it the intention of the caster that matters in this case the marker was designated for the color red, it stands to reason that a red substitute would suffice, as I have done this when I can't find my markers, and the spell still works like it is supposed to.

Always intent trumps anything. The marker is just an item. It is a symbol and it's red. Just use something else that is red. A pencil or crayon are perfectly fine. Just "know" that it will work. You must have full faith in the spell for it to work.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. Sorry I haven't responded sooner, I had a small family matter to attend to. Nothing serious, and all is well now.
