I just wanted to start a thread for people to talk about this, I'm an Empath.
I have been for a long time, but I didn't realise it at all because I thought it was normal. I'd like to talk to other Empaths, and would like some help with 'shielding' and other techniques I've heard of that can lower how much Is felt from others. :) I am kind of a shut in because of this and hardly ever go out :(
So if there is anyone who could help, or even just wants to talk, please message? Thanks :)

I have the same problem, it got really bad one time where people in my class were nervous about a final, which I was completely prepared for and meditated right before alone in an empty classroom I was at peace but I couldn't handle all their nerves and I had a full on panic attack, it was so overwhelming that I even threw up. Can you do empathic readings from online? Because people keep asking me and my "gift" doesn't work that way, does yours?

Sometimes I can, it depends on the person, how long we talk, and how honest they are- it helps because I know when someone is being fake because I sense it. And sometimes I can even tell their facial expression or what they look like, but I'm not an expert. :)

Well I guess I'm not that exprienced yet. I can't do over the internet or phone. But it gets overwhelming to where idont know what my true feeling are and what I'm picking up from others.

For shielding yourself from others:
It's all in the mind. If you simply focus your mind on something else, the emotions of others will dim. I suggest trying to focus on your own emotions. Or focus on the task at hand. If your mind wonders you will start to feel the emotions of others again.

Im a psi vamp, not exactly an empath, but I can feel others emotions by their energy, up to an extent.

Odd really. I autmatically feed off of other people (seriously have no idea how to stop it) and that makes me feel what they're feeling. Its no where near as strong as empathy, but it does get annoying at times...

I am an Empath as well. There are some ups and downs to it. You can better connect with people and cheer them up in a time of sadness, but when you are in a room filled with highschool students that just found out that the nicest girl in the school had passed away... I felt like a diamond was forming in my gut. The collective sadness was overwhelming. I went home and hugged a tree.

I try sheilding but I hate when it effects you so much that you can't cheer yourself up, like what you said about the collective sadness, by the way I'm sorry for your loss

I have been an Empath for a while and when it comes to shielding yourself I think the best way to start is to be able to tell your emotions from someone else's and then work from there

I am also an empath as well like today i heard my mom shouting at my sister normally you will think she is angry but i just got suddenly sad and not to long she started crying. I normally do a basic meditation to shield myself from bad energy
