It varies from person to person. Meditation should make you feel more relaxed and centered each time you do it. There are various ways to meditate. The idea is to calm and focus your mind (not empty it as some places teach). The more often you practice, the sooner you will feel it working. It is a wonderful practice that helps us to get more in touch with the universe, recognizing our place within it :D
It's an art of calming and focusing the mind, so that's what you should focus on the most. Also, note that meditation isn't exactly crossing your legs and going "Ohm" repeatedly (although that is a good and traditional method). Many people just focus on calming themselves and focusing their mind, which is your top priority whilst meditating.
To 0908126, no, you don't have to meditate three times a day. It is a personal preference, and whatever works for you. I suggest starting with guided meditations on YouTube to start out, and then ween yourself off to begin to meditate on your own.
It doesn't have to be real fancy, it could be as simple as staring into the distance and zoning out in a peaceful place or laying down and listening to binaural beats.
Eyes of Zeus is correct. Different strokes for different folks! Personally, my mind is like the Indy 500 track. I actually need a fixed visual aid to slow it down, coupled with incense and breathing techniques. I also have hypnotic triggers implanted, should all else fail. Self-hypnosis is not for the faint-hearted, so as Eyes mentioned, perhaps some guided meditation vids on Youtube may be for you.
Best of luck, may you only grow!
I think you have many good suggestions on here although with the youtube videos you may want to make sure to check the poster to try and verify that the person knows what they are doing. Also remember that there is no wrong way to meditate everyone does things a little differently. I personally listen to music as many people do however while most people listen to soft soothing music I crank of some dubstep or heavy metal as loud as I can. So just experiment around. I also agree there is not set times to do "3 times a day" may work for them but you may need more or less.
