My full discovery with the Pagan path can be read on my profile page, but I don't want to rewrite everything here because this post would be ridiculously long.
So, here's the condensed version. I'm non-religious. I honor and devote myself to the practice of appreciating the elements and fantastical forces of nature.
I do preform spells and rituals, but without the involvement of deities. This is because I see the deities as fictional representations of the unknown that earlier civilizations encountered. They created the deities to explain the impossible actions of nature.
I do plan on furthering my education concerning the properties of Herbs, Crystals, Gems and Stones. I don't know how I feel about Divination, I'm afraid of it to be honest. I don't read Tarot and have no desire to either. I suppose I'm a very minimalist witch. I consider myself an Elemental Pagan Witch.

I started in magic similar to what you describe, just by having an interest in the natural order of things and the amazing forces of nature. Nature being magic and magic nature. I was agnostic then not an atheist. I am still new to it all. I probably always will be but I am progressing towards being a completer believer in everything.
I practiced with herbs and stones and then went out on a healing retreat of my own and lived at one with nature for some time often completely alone out in the woods. I discovered somethings while under the moon and sun and sky with my rocks and plants, herbs, incense, books and trees. I have found that the deities are not fictional representations as I once also believed. For me now they are real.
I just want to say that you may find with more natural practice and solitude that there is a comfort in knowing the deities. At least a few. And great wisdom in having knowledge of them all.
It may come to you in time. And you may find it extremely comforting and enlightening when when you open up spiritually.
