Greetings! I would suggest reading Lark's post on what Wicca is, and what it isn't. It has some very clear info in it on spellcasting and magick that relates to your question.

You might want to read the post at http://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=637268 for a more complete description of what Wicca is all about.

But the short answer is that Wiccans use magic whenever they cast a circle, consecrate a tool, Draw Down the Moon, and other rituals. However, such magic is different from casting spells. Many Wiccans seldom, if ever, cast spells.

Just to throw my two cents in here for @nelson. Witchcraft is a way of life and a way of learning both in the academic sense, the spiritual sense and the practical sense. For example, we live and learn and practice our path. Magic is all around us and is subjective, some magic is used for nefarious gains, some magic is used for positive gains and healing. Magic is a name given to a set of rules, regulations and procedures that stop anyone from just mindlessly casting spells at will. For example, novice witches tend to spend many many hours learning the basics such as protection, how to form the correct circle and more importantly how to meditate in order to be balanced. Everyone religion has its own 'magic' and its own way of practicing that 'magic' from prayers to rituals, it is just more defined in ours if that makes sense?

Wicca is absolutely not inherited in the genes nor do you have to be born Wiccan (Since you obviously are not.) Wicca is a religion and one becomes Wiccan by studying and practicing the religious beliefs. Even if ones parents were Wiccan that does not make a person Wiccan themselves unless they chose to follow the beliefs and practice of Wicca for themselves.

Often, the words 'Wicca' and 'witch' are used to describe someone who practices magick in popular culture but there are altually very different things.

First off, a witch is someone who practices witchcraft. Witchcraft is a craft, not a religion.

The word Wicca was used in Old English for a male witch. The religion Wicca was brought forth to the public in the 1950's by Gerald Gardner. I strongly suggest reading some of Lark's post on Wicca. :)
Wiccans often use magick, but as said, magick and witchcraft is a craft and they are certainly not the core of the religion.
