So I have a bit of an issue here,
I went to a store a few months ago to buy my very first tarot deck. Long story short I grabbed an oracle deck instead. I went back a few days later an let my emotions an excitement take over my judgment. I just grabbed the first deck I saw. Took it home and started to study the meanings online as well as reading the pictorial key to tarot.
I'm finding this process being much more difficult then previously thought. I am having troubles reading the cards (pictures) and memorizing them is a whole other ball game for I have a horrible memory.
I know some of the difficulties have to do with memorizing the meanings and picture reading. But I keep having this reoccurring thought that another issue is I haven't built a connection with my cards. That I should have took my time with each deck there reading them mentally.
Before I continue pursuing my studies I'm thinking of buying the rider deck. Or getting a deck where the pictures and feeling of the deck call to me.
So my questions are:
If im not feeling a deck and having troubles reading the pictures and the feelings not right should I purchase a new deck?
Does anyone know of any websites/books/online videos/or online pdfs that can help me learn the meanings of the cards faster?
Of course you can buy another deck, I have two because I simply wasn't connected to my first.
You don't even have to learn all of the information, despite reading cards for years I still have to double check the information on each card.
You may also want to keep your cards around you for a while, I used to put them next to my pillow at night, the more time you spend with them, the more connected you become to them.
Thank you very much! So Im taking it I should invest in another deck an give it a go! When I got home I just didnt feel a connection. The pictures dont even speak to me at all. Its an old english deck. So Im going to try getting th rider waite deck or the hermetic tarot caues I simply love th art on that one. Thanks for the information and reply !
You can try the Rider deck
Paul Husons new tarot book is excellent as Historical reference
Joan Bunning has some excellent
And if you really want to get deep, check out The classic by Papus
Sacredtexts also has several old books for free to read, including Papus,Waides Book is there too.
Those at readers who just read books then started giving readings
There is one video, a documentary less then an hour long that happens to be excellent, they even go into the Journey of the Fool
A great story to help newbies connect the trumps and get use to them in several ways.
I'm with You the Hermetic Deck is my favorite for viewing
But for giving accurate readings it too complex for many people
Get that one to meditate on cards for now but learn on the aside deck, or may I add a more Historically accurate deck then Waide
Is Paul Husons Dame Fortunes deck.
I love to read cards. I have 2 tarot decks and 3 oracle decks. There are alot of books about learning to read tarot for beginners. I have a couple of them. There is one I really really like, but the name is escaping me. I'll see if I can find it when I get home so I can tell you. In the meantime, if you go to Amazon or Llewellyn you'll find a whole bunch of good resources.
Tarot Plain and Simple by Anthony Louis is my favorite tarot book for starting out. It's really super easy to understand. I have a couple other more complex ones, but that one is best for beginning. =] . Happy practicing!
