Why would you use English terms for a culture that didn't speak English in that time?

If you could provide an example of what you mean, that would help.

As was suggested, it is an old Norse/Icelandic/Scandinavian/Germanic religion. Why would be in English? Beyond this, some phrases in other languages lack a direct translation to English.

Ah, in reference to one of my posts- since I used those terms. "Sitting Out" *is* the English term for Utiseta, which is why I included it. I try to include a rough english translation of what the terminology I use means if I am explaining something to someone unfamiliar with the practice. However, within the practice, we use the terminology as used by the culture our practice comes from- so there's not a need for English translation there.

How come I'm getting disturbed by it, and I'm a Scandivanian, but no one else seems to be bothered

Bothered by using original terminology? I would love for us to be able to actually use the accent marks along with the correct terms as I prefer reading the material in their original languages (I am learning them, so it is a slower process).

And quite a few of us are Scandinavian as well (I'm Norwegian and Danish).

I'm Norwegian. From Hammerfest, actually. If you're bothered by it that's your problem. Though I don't see why you would be. Noone else is bothered because it is the correct usage of the language and the original terminology. All sects of Heathenry use it. Its an integral part of the religion.
