that is true..im 13 and i came here around November expecting to be around mature people who had the same thoughts and feeling on things like me...
then i see all of these "children" and it really does annoy me sometimes when i have to tell them to act right or when they say things like "im a vampire" or "im a demon half breed" i feel like they give some of us "mature" kids a bad rep...
it just amazes me that im more mature then some of these people..but thats how it is now and days in this new age...i guess with movies and all of that crap
yeah im 12 im mature even though i have dark sincr of humor for my age and people who belive there werewolfs or demons anything like that to me seem (no offence) kinda of mental.
There is a difference between having ''knowledge'' and having real experience. Most children here I noticed, really know their stuff and can tell you everything about anything, but I really doubt half of them have experience in these altered states. We never know, and just like the internet is, we sif through all the endless garbage to find the goodstuff.
I don't think Linda was stating that all the younglings on this site are role playing or not taking magic seriously. I agree that it seems that there are more "kids" who are interested in this nonsense than actual magical practitioners that take their magic seriously. Due to the popularity of magic in pop culture the interest in magic has grown exponentially in the years I have been in the craft. Like all things we must learn to take the bitter with the sweet and move forward because we can't change what has already happened. All we can do is try our best to help those who truly want to learn the actual ways of magic.
I know we must be patient with those who are learning however that does not mean we should allow those who think they have all the answers to spread misinformation. All this does is confuse and frustrate the many who are trying to learn or help others learn.
I might be old school but I don't think that someone under the age of 20 should be leading a coven or teaching anyone. These years are best spent learning by research, practice, observation, and most importantly the personal grow you achieve. There are too many other things a person of this age needs to worry about rather than the responsibility of leading a coven and schooling others in the ways of magic. Like finishing their education so that they can support themselves as an adult, getting through the trials and tribulations of the teen years, dealing with the changes in the body as it reaches full maturity, and how to deal with who they are becoming as the make their way from child to adult. I am not saying you can't help out here and there through things like a study group or sharing experiences. I am talking about those who are 13 and claiming that they can throw a fire ball or have been into magic since they were 5 and know how to summon a demon. I feel bad for those who are this age and taking their interest in magic seriously because these "children" do cause some to think all kids are like this. I think most of you are mature enough to understand that one bad apple can spoil the lot.
So what do we do? It seems that the site is overrun with those pretending to know what they are talking about with few elders and younglings taking a stand and correcting the misinformation. To long have I seen those with actual knowledge
turn the other cheek by letting the "children" play and make a mess that they will never clean up. If you want to make a difference sit down, pull out your best typing fingers, and fire back some good information at the stuff that needs to be clarified, corrected, and called out on. You can also start a new thread about a topic with plenty of good information. Like an experience you have had or an idea you have been toying with.
thanks kts for understanding nice post there, neorsa you are in no position to tell me to leave, its a free world and l just express myself if this site is really for entertainment only then posts which some post it works have you ever think about it some rily practice it and supposin it works is it stil entertainment No l dn,t think so but thanks
l remember wishing to have powers to create a palace filled with mermaids and years a later l saw a spell on how to be a mermaid but l was nt intrested because l got real but there are portals which can be open by mistakes so kids should be careful not to dabble things they don,t know about
I never told you to leave, I said 'you can leave'. When I say things like that I mean them literally. There are many individuals in the past who have gotten fed up with the site and simply left it for other offsite things such as covens and sites that were created based off SoM as a restart to kill the fluff encountered here. No one is stopping you from leaving, and no one is forcing you to leave. That is what I meant when I said 'you can leave'.
Also it is somewhat difficult to 'open portals' when you are just dabbling like a kiddie, as they don't have enough knowledge or patience to make the real magick work.
And I'm sorry if this is harsh, but honestly the kids on this site can either learn to grow up, or take what harm comes to them for messing around. It's like letting your child touch a hot stove once; once they realize it's hot and can burn them they won't touch it again, but if they never touch it then they never learn not to touch it. Personally, I'm all for letting every fool on this site, child or adult, touch the hot stove. At least that way they'll learn their lesson, rather than you telling them anything.
I'd also like to comment that online coven leading doesn't matter as much as real coven leading. Yes, in a real coven the leaders should probably be over twenty, here however there is the issue of where are you gonna get people twenty and older who know their stuff and wish to teach and run a coven, and actually can do it? You'd probably be hard pressed to find anyone to fit these criterion, that said if you open the age group to those over sixteen then you open more possibilities for leaders.
I'd like to add that while I agree that many teens on this site simply do not have the time to run a coven, they can have better leadership skills then other, older, members.
Truth be told, there are some over twenty here that know alot less than some of those under twenty. I'm not saying that makes it easy for them to run a coven or anything, but still.
Also as on this site there are many newly interested in magick individuals, someone who has practiced and done basics for a while and other things can turn around and teach what they do know and have experienced. Not saying that they are the best teachers in the world, but when the number of students wishing to learn outweighs the number of those who can teach who are willing to you kinda have to take what you can get.
Just stating this all based on my personal opinion from what I've seen and what I've experienced myself while around.
Settling for what you can get is giving up hope that what you need does not exist. Just because the the number of young students out number the amount of ligament teachers and leaders does not mean we should be encouraging those under the age of 20 to teach or those who want to learn to take what they can get. The reason I say this is because there are always more students than teachers in any setting. Look at a local school the students always out number the teachers. The young might not be able to find a physical magical teacher due to a number of reasons. Any decent coven will have an age restriction and require that a minors parents approve of the involvement of their child with the coven. This is not just for legal purposes but it shows that the coven is serious about their magical instruction. A good solitary feels the same way. I personally have taught some in the physical under the age of 18 and I always did it with the knowledge of their parents.
The reason this site has so many young people seeking information about magic is because one of our biggest rivals instated an age requirement of 18 years and older about year or so ago. Yes people can lie about their age after all this is the internet. This I think is why we have those claiming to be older than 20 lacking in knowledge and unfit to teach even though they try. Here the young are welcome however many of them lack respect for those who have been practicing actual magic no matter how long they have or they age.
Is an online coven as good as a physical one? The answer depends on an array of variables. You can sit and argue the pros and cons of of the two till you are blue in the face. Online covens are a way for anyone who might not have the time or the ability to join a physical coven to learn and practice with others. There will always be the great debate of coven verses solitary as well. Scott Cunningham is one of the most well know defenders of the solitary witch. During the rise of the council of American witches in the 1970's Scott stood his ground as the egocentric witches that felt magic should only be taught through covens tried to silence him. They tried to discredit Cunningham for his desire to write books and teach the solitary ways of magic. Thank goodness these ideas did not become the only way to learn the arts of the craft.
When I said take what you can get I didn't mean at the loss of quality learning. Lol. It was intended to be put towards the comment that age isn't everything.
Yeah, I know it is annoying to see so many on this site acting the way they do, but that being said, it is annoying to all the serious people regardless of age.
Sure, older people will probably have more experience, probably being the key word. There are many here who have practiced for over five years seriously, not all of them adults. I think it is the time you spend and what you do during that time that matters, not how much time the studying and practicing takes up.
To be totally honest I have learned more in the last year than I ever learned in the last six to seven, simply because in the last year I became serious about learning all I could.
The only reason I keep posting on this topic even is that I myself fit into the under twenty range (as I am 19) and that many of the comments on here are too widely generalized about the members of this site who are under that age.
Ok ill admit, Im only 13 but no one seems to have a problem with that and since i have only been doing witchcraft for about 1 year. i HAVE learned a lot but, there is so much i still want to learn and so much i still have to learn. But, don't underestimate us younglings, some people on this site know so much stuff, that i am amazed what people know. Just saying that you cant judge a book by its cover. :)
