Listen. Just relax! This is clearly just a clear-up operation in process. I really doubt anyone on this site really has the ability, or indeed the arrogance, to rate anyone else. Just be patient! :D

I think that it has its perks and its down side. What I think is good about it is that new people, and not so new people, can reference to this if someone is telling them something they find hard to believe. It provides a rating of general knowledge based on what others on the site have experienced of that said person.I don't think it was meant to questions someones proficiency in their specific path. Just to show what a general opinion of others is on a certain person. Down-sides...Yes, it does kinda make it seem like a game. Yes it can, and probably will, be taken as an insult by more then a few people. And some people might try lording their ranks over people. But...I'm sure all of this will be resolved in time. It is new after all. Far from perfected.

I just hope it doesn't turn into if you disagree with something or you have different ways of doing the same thing, you are going to go down in rating. :/ Then again if you don't care about it, it wouldn't matter.

No one has the right to 'rank' another person in this life. Not on this site. Not anywhere. Unless you are a willing member of a church of course. lol

So mostly people are concerned about people ranking you, when they don't know anything about your path or religon?

I'm concerned more about the fact magick is not a game, so you shouldn't be ranked, I could care less how someone views my standings in my path. I am the one who has to walk it not them, if they don't like it, maybe one of my footprints should mark their behind instead of my path. >:)

I wouldn't stress over this. Who really cares about what other people think of you. Just respect yourself and don't act fluffy and nothing bad will happen. What seems to be happening is "Novice" means relatively talented, "Intermediate" means very masterful, and "Expert" or whatever the highest rank is means Pretty much the best one can be but with a small amount of room for improvement because there is always more to learn. Even the rating of Novice can be considered good and the rankings more represent trust then anything else. And even if i'm wrong, it's not a big deal.Things happen, live with it. If Pet added it, there must be a good reason for it.
