Okay, simmer down now. The "Pentacles" he is referring to are a series of various designs encased in a circle. Only one of these designs involve the five-point star at all, and the set has little relation to actual Pentacles besides name. There are also two Keys of Solomon, the lesser and the greater (written by two separate people, neither of them Solomon). One of them deals with summoning specific Demons, while the other is stated to influence various lesser spirits directly. I really am no expert on the matter, so I'll bow out at this point. Just wanted to set straight what I could.
SparrowMan;
1) The lesser & Greater keys of Solomon BOTH require an invocation ceremony as I have already described. And, I didn't state that they were written by Solomon. And, at the very beginning I stated; "If I may humbly illuminate without offense."
2) austinkll2 was immediately offensive.
3) Brysing was immediately offensive.
4) Why didn't you start with your "simmer down" statement right after Brysing started in on me? Are you wanting to tear me down to? Dude, you are wrong...,

Lonestar. I was not insulting you. I was merely pointing out that your post about pentacles was your belief. For instance, you talk of demons. They only exist if you believe they do! Just as any belief; even mermaids!
Everything you posted, except the sheriff badge, was part of your belief.
uggghhh, Guys. I think you can blame me for my incomplete question but I was talking about pentacles like: Pentacle of jupiter, pentacle of moon, pentacle of (planet)
I enjoyed reading Lonestar's post. The reason I visit this site is to hear other people's opinions. Facts I could find anywhere else. When it comes to religion there is much that is left up to interpretation so much of what is on this site will therefore be people's interpretations of what they have read or experienced. So we should accept this and be tolerant of each other. We should also be open to criticism and debate and not become defensive. I find it really annoying when I read the posts on these forums and have to sift through all the bickering to find something worthwhile reading. Everyone needs to stop hating on each other. It's tiresome. That being said, to Lonestar, in point 2, I think the term you were looking for was "placebo" not "panacea". "Panacea" is a term named after the Greek goddess of healing and was used to refer to a general cure for illnesses and for the "elixir of life". A placebo is like a "sugar pill" used in studies where one group will get the active drug and the control group a placebo to assess the efficacy of the drug tested. But great post. :)
I really enjoyed the information in #3 lonestar. Quite interesting. I love the history of symbols.
I've been learning about symbolism, talismans, and amulets since I was nine years old! That's 16 years. Shesh, now I feel old. Lol! Anyways, I've never lost my interest and continue to learn. There is so much information, I don't think one person can cover it all. That's why it's nice to discuss such symbolism in a group. Chances are, you're going to find out something you haven't discovered yet or forgotten.
This is my theory/belief.
Magick in its basic form is thought, emotion, belief, concentration, understanding, will, etc...right? Magick is energy that is manipulated by our minds to make change. (no tools necessary, they're only mental aids. Key word "mental" = mind.).
If thousands if not millions of people looked at the exact same symbol throughout hundreds or thousands of years, the thought of its purpose, emotional desire, belief of it's abilities, concentration behind their own spellwork, understanding of what it represented, and will to cause their goal to manifest would collect. Things that are alike carry similar if not identical energy. And like attracts like (the law of attraction). This energy created from these people would not go away, it would strengthen through the reinforcement of the next person who used it.
Everytime you look at a symbol and know the meaning, it registers in your mind and you associate the symbol with what it represents. Even such simple symbols as your country's flag, or a question mark. With so many putting so much "energy" into the thought of what symbols represent, it isn't a far fetched thought to believe that the more history a symbol has, the stronger it will be just by existing. No charging required because of the thought/energy collected through years surrounding the symbol itself.
See it this way, a magick symbol, especially those such as the Keys of Solomon, is a drawn spell. People took/take all their fancy words and ingredients and condensed it into a picture. Yes there was ritual, but after so long of using the exact same symbol, the thought of the ritual attached to this symbol, causing it to be capable of standing alone. Performing the ritual would make the influencement stronger, but the symbol itself continues to hold the belief, desire, and willpower surrounding the uses/spellwork it was originally to be paired with.
The only time I would recommend charging would be if it were a younger symbol, your own created symbol, or if a symbol had two or more very different meanings. Most symbols remain consistent with what they represent. A few modifications through time, but nothing too drastic.
