when king james rewrote the bible, meaning his own personal version of it, he added the word witch to support his views on getting rid of anyone who still practiced the old ways, those who did not convert to catholicism. If you study the bible, the words poisoner of wells were the original words instead of witch.

I was raised mormon and jewish and found the path of wiccan to be a blend of all religions! Traditional religions chant and sing and pray to their god and use alters and light candles. Spells are words that create energy to manifest what you want, as do prayers. I use the energy of many gods and goddess's but the christian god has many faces - the energy of love as seen in the goddess venus, etc. To me, we all honor the same and get to the same place if we are acting in love and light. We use different tools and call ourselves different names, but the thread of the divine flows through all of us. Geila

Spells are only words backed by your belief, your inner power and magic of your divine soul. It mirrors prayers but the structure is different. Many parts of the old testament through my research comes from Kemeticism for example Moses who many scholars believe was a Kemetic priest (knowing the way of the Egyptians) that lead others out of Egypt. Some support for this theory is that in Kemeticism we have 42 laws many like the ten commandments.
