I never said they were a species dude, I said the irish clan or tribe called themselves elves, and I never said they were a supernatural being, read my stuff better no offense, and I heard all this stuff from a source, it was a girl that claimed she was a elf. And I don't believe they even exist I am just telling you what the source said. Read my posts better even if you have to read them twice. And I didn't read your whole message anyways. All I heard was that elves were people that practiced white magick. And most legends, myths, and stories are based off of true facts. And I have a genetic trate that makes one of my ears look pointy but I don't believe I am a elf, and many people mark their bodies some how kind of like how a tribe of indians longate the skull to make it more of a oval shape than a round shape. And I do not believe in elves whatsoever. I'm just stating things a self claimed elf told me. And I don't believe people are like santas elves or little cookie making elves or elves off of lord of the rings, I am open to the idea that they may be a tribe of people that once existed though. Again read this message three times if you have too, but I don't really want replies anyways.

Listen, Brad. Saying you do not want replies does not work here. This is a public forum and anyone here is allowed to reply to you.
I wish the mods would lock this thread already because it is obvious to me some debate has/is going to start.
I would advise you take your own advice and read other peoples posts better as well. I think the way I wrote my reply may have caused confusion. I was not suggesting that you believed elves to be a magical race of beings in any way what I attempted to do was to state that I had not heard of an elf tribe in my research of Irish history which strikes me as being particularly unusual as the term elf is Germanic in origin and was merely asking if you knew more about it.
I then attempted to explain the origins and differences in the folklore of elves and fairies and where the addition of the pointy ears originated as far as I have been able to pin down in my own research. (Although frankly I'm not satisfied that Hollywood added the pointy ears, the film industry takes a lot of inspiration and merges them to create a creature but rarely has an original idea).
I am aware of many tribes in both Africa and South America that do mark or disfigure their body in some way, heck even tattoos are a mark on the body. However all I am saying is that to my knowledge the Irish have not had a history of shaping there ears. When I say I would be fascinated to learn of such an example though I really do mean it. I'm quite avid on piecing together Celtic history and if there is such an example I would like to know more. Although if this is something merely told to you then the odds are you don't have a reference sadly.
Based purely on my own research I would suggest that either the term elf tribe is a term adopted in the modern era by a native american tribe tat has seen heavy Irish immigration or your informant's research is flawed as the word is neither Native American or Irish in origins. I'd also point out that a tribe can not be both Native American or Irish as the Irish colonized areas of America well into a civilized era of there own development (although the tribe may have adopted the immigrants folk tales into their own).
You're obviously under no obligation to do so but if you're still in contact with this girl would you mind asking if the tribe has any other names? A google search didn't reveal the answers unfortunately and the concept could fill in quite a large part of my currently missing research.
