Personally I just do what ever, but more or less I usually explain what is actually going on be it how I perceive it or feel it than actually slapping a word as vague and misunderstood and not universally agreed upon as "magic(k)"
I feel like the commentary and insights and explanations are far more valuable than just the mentioning of what ever one would call such things.
Like I will say magic just to save from long-winded paragraphs of information and if everyone seems to be on the same page on what magic(k) is, but I will most likely describe to best my ability what is really going on there besides just calling it something in place of the valuable information.
I kinda like how eiss and chenny put it....But I only use magick when im looking online for creepy occult stuffs....

I prefer spelling it magick. Why? I like Crowley's definition of magick. I tend to think he is a pretty funny guy from what I read and had smart stuff to say. I like the idea of differentating between fake fun stuff and real stuff. Whatever way people want to spell it or define it is fine though. They all work, there is no wrong answer as I see it.
However, when I first started...people kept trying to correct my spelling because I spelled it magic. I only knew that spelling. It just came off super pretencious and douchey. I'm right, your wrong, I'm smarter than you, haha, eat my shorts! *victory dance*
It's like how so many people like calling out fluffs because it makes them feel better about themselves. The point of correcting someone saying something fluffy is both to help them and people whom might be listening. When someone asks to summon a pokemon, turn into a mermaid, fire bend, etc...The point is supposed to be to help them. We have all been children once. As such, we have all believed in the impossible once. Making fun of someones genuine ignorance is a dick move. Don't assume they are doing it on purpose.
That opens up a different discussion which I feel is entirely relevant, Syren. A lot of "SoM mentality" is a one-stop-shop of telling people they are wrong or that they should learn what magic really is... with absolutely no follow up, no pointers in any direction, or explaining why things are the way they are. I get that it can be tiresome to try that with every newbie, but we have formed the habit of telling people the regular things; why can't we also form a habit of telling people more helpful things? It's no more effort than doing what we already do beyond changing what we actually say.

When I first joined SoM, I would always see "it's 'magick' not 'magic". So for a while, that's what I used, because I thought it was the correct spelling for "true" magic. But eventually, I figured the spelling did not matter. So now I just say magic.
I agree with both Stabby and Syren. People can often times get stuck in a rut. This is something I saw when I first joined SoM all those years ago. An example being "it's 'magick' not 'magic". I do not recall anyone explaining why this was when someone spelled it "magic" other than "magick" is used for "true" magic and "magic" is used for stage magic.
If we can't learn to integrate key forms of teaching, then we should at bare minimum make it so that a key aspect of learning is critical thinking and not simply taking what people say for gospel truth - that way, even if everyone doesn't get on board with how they perpetuate information, we can at least have a new "generation" of newbies start to question everything. A lot of people who come off as knowledgeable would be tripped up if someone asked them why they thought things were the way they were.

I use both but, I use magick more. It seems more formal to me. Magic just makes me think of those toys sets you get as a kid.
Same for me, when ever I try searching for tags for specific items, I usually get Harry Potter items if I don't include the "k" at the end. This is OP btw, my other accounts were GrayGhost and Amarandena.
