Hekate is a titaness, not a goddess. And Hekate is hardly a titaness to worship if you "are looking for a god to worship".

Whether or not She is a Titaness or Goddess is debatable. Being Titan-born it would make sense despite Her being 3rd Generation. However She is more commonly depicted as a Goddess rather than Titaness.

Actually, Tarasios. The reason that Hekate is depicted as a Goddess more nowadays, is that the New Age-y version of Her is showing Her off as a Goddess, rather than a Titaness. Some people like to twist things around and whatever they say is truth, but it's not actually true at all. This is one of my prime examples of that.

By worshiping Hades, you are in no way worsiping anything Dark, like Satan or Lucifer if that is your intentions
In the old days very few Greeks actually worshiped Hades
Even His brothers for the most part avoided him
Hades is the God of Death and the Underworld
Kinda like the Modern day Grimores reaper
We all come to meet him one day,and he is in no way good or evil he is just the end of life. It's an odd God to worship at best
But to each his ownm

Hades is also well known for His riches. Gems and such being a part of the earth and generally underground. If it is a respectable wealth you're in search for He would be the God to contact.

Okay, so here is another thread that is giving misinformation. Hekate is a Goddess and this is not a modern concept. This is not my opinion, it is fact. I have proof for this I will link below. Titans are a subsect of Gods. It goes Primordial Gods, Titan Gods, and Olympian Gods in that order. This is showing linage of each ones ruling. Theoi is one of the most credible websites you could ever hope to find on Hellenism.

It is historically accurate and gives wonderful in depth translations of Greek text, hymns, surnames, epithets, shows ancient statues, vases, paintings, etc. Now look on the third link which break up the Gods into sections. Notice how it says, "Titan Gods" that is no mistake. Now read the first sentence of the first link provided where it specifically states, "Hekate was the goddess of magic, witchcraft, the night, the moon, ghosts, and necromancy." Boom! It's right there, clear as day.

Being a Titan and a Khthonic Deity makes her no less a Deity. To say otherwise is both inaccurate and highly disrespectful to her. This is not some new age Wiccan concept made in the last few years. There is a paramount of proof in excess that is extremely credible. Being one thing does not take away another. Being a Titan does not cancel out her godhood. That is not how it works. By that logic, being an Olympian means they are not Gods. See? They are still Gods, just a particular sect of Gods. Haides is a God and nobody would dispute that. But he is Khthonic! Does putting Khthonic cancel it out? No, it does not.

Now let's go ahead and check the second link. "The most important of the Titan gods " Huh, it's almost as if Titans are actually Gods or something. Funny how that works.

This really interests me as it's one of my personal bugbears regarding the way that the Titans, and especially Hekate, are "downgraded" by some modern practitioners.

The "Titans are not gods" idea seems to be relatively recent, and I wonder if it's been borrowed a little from NY community discussions around the idea of Gods and jotunn, with Titans seen as something like giants as opposed to divine figures.

Of course it doesn't help that some Orphic texts mention Zagreus being dismembered by a race of giants who are frequently referred to as Titans. There doesn't appear to be any connection between the Titans of Orphic cosmology and the classification of gods called Titans and I suspect this is more of a linguistic aberration, where the words "gigantic" and "titanic" came to mean more or less the same thing, thus the Titans become giants rather than gods. This has essentially just been picked up by lazy scholars and repeated.

Of course if you want to be really picky, and I often do, the Titans described by Hesiod only number twelve, the original six sons and six daughters of Ouranos and Gaia. They are called "Titans" as an insult by their father Ouranos in response to Kronos taking over from Him as king of the Gods:

But their father, great Ouranos, called them Titans by surname, rebuking his children, whom he had begotten himself; for he said they had "strained" (titainontas) in their wickedness to perform a mighty deed, and at some later time there would be vengeance for this. -Hesiod, Theogony, 207-210.

None of their children are called Titans, and indeed Kronos and Rhea's children (Zeus, Poseidon etc) are cousins to gods such as Selene, Helios and Hekate, placing them in the same family and not in any way lessening the importance and level of devotion afforded to them.

Ah, so they compare Hellenism to Heathenry which is not really comparible in the first place then make assertions based on that. I mean, they are both hard polytheistic but beyond that, the ball drops. That sounds incredibly likely. Reminds me of how people try to mash Hermes and Loki together or say Nymphs and Elves are Fae which is not historically accurate in the least. But, why be historically accurate when you can make things simple and wrap it all up in a cute little red bow? Do the quicker route rather than the right one as it were. That way you can say you know all the mythos and can recite it all in a quarter of a second lol!

Apologies, my initial post meant to say NT not NY.

That seems to be the case Syren, which is vaguely insulting to both traditions as it seems to suggest that they are more or less the same in content, just with different deities and spirits.

This is unfortunately where we get erasure of our polytheist traditions and the loss of our practices; I have actually had a member of the PF admin team tell me that they didn't see the point of Hellenismos and Heathenry because Wicca covers everything (*facedesk*).
