Earso. I realise that you probably had no choice. But I would never cut down a tree. All my married life, when my children were growing up, we never had a real Christmas tree. Always artificial. At that time of year truck loads of real fir trees can be seen arriving at Leeds market. I find that very sorrowful.

Trees are one of the most important forms of plant life on Earth. Not only do they clean the air we need to breath they are also the main thing that provides the earth with protection from the sun. Aside from these trees provide us with many of the things we use and need on a daily basis. Besides food trees provide us with heat and utensils to cook food with, shelter, paper, furniture, decorative accents, and the list goes on. Having a love and respect for trees does not mean you have to give up wood products. It would be difficult to do so. Instead you need to strike a balance in your life. I personally love having a Yule tree. It is a big tradition with my husband and children to go to the Christmas tree farm to pick out and cut down our tree. To us the tree is a member of the family and we celebrate with it. We also plant a new tree every year if not on our property we donate and plant one in a public area. We also as a family choose to reduce the waste of trees by reducing the throw away of wood and wood products in anyway we can. Reduce, reuse, recycle!

I agree to a certain extent. The family of KTS do plant a tree to take the place of one cut down. Unfortunately not everybody does the same! Countless trees are simply thrown away after Christmas.

However these trees come from tree farms where each tree cut is then replaced to keep the farm going. If they were not then the farm would die. Many tree farms here in the states are family operated.

I always loved nature, so every time a person came to cut down a tree I would and still do get upset, because some of trees have been around for hundreds of years.

You aren't weird. We all come from the earth, so we're connected to it. Some just ignore it.
I myself love trees. Everything about them is so beautiful and alive. So don't feel strange and be proud to call yourself a treehugger. I know I am.
