Could not be better said. Some Christians believe all magick is evil...but they do the same things themselves, they just don't call it magick.

They call it prayer. They call it going to church. They call it many things but it's all magick. That's why prayer heals and church is good for the body as well as the spirit.

Christians who believe all magick is evil are just close minded. If you look into it, the original translation of "witch" from the Bible was supposed to mean something more like "necromancer". Some forms of magick are considered to be blasphemous in the Christian doctrine. Mostly because the spirits of the dead are supposed to be left in peace.

It's an interesting topic.

I think it has already been stated but it bears repeating.

Christianity in practice has many of the same elements as Witchcraft. There is ritual in the various religious ceremonies, spells in prayers to various forms of their Deity,(God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Mary, Saints, etc...) They have many of the same tools like candles, incense, chalices to name a few. However because they do not understand the similarities, or just continue to stay blind to them, they believe witchcraft is evil and their religion is not.

Truth is, there are very few things or actions in this world that are intrinsically evil. It is our intent behind those actions that determine that.

Follow the path that lifts your spirit the most.

By the way, if you are inclined to go to Church, there are churches out there that will accept you with open arms. Look for a local Unitarian Universalist church. They are usually very accepting and affirming.

Christians and any religion based on that will full-heartily believe that witchcraft is practiced by the devil and his followers. This is not true, for no magick is bad. It is upon the intent of the user, though Christians do not believe this. They believe that all witchcraft is evil and should be abolished.

Just for giggles I'll share something that fits well for this situation. I have a button that says: Sorry I missed church, I was busy practicing witchcraft and becoming a lesbian.

The last part has no relavance but still I bought it 2 days ago. Perfect timing.

how old are you? i'm guessing you were born Wiccan and are having to look at other religions right now.

it's not just Christians mind, but when you're raised to believe one thing, if you're told it over and over, it becomes fact. historically speaking, Paganism was the dominant religion and Christianity was the minor, it was frowned upon to be Christian at that time, because they thought it was cannibalism [blood and body] i can't remember his name, but one roman emperor blamed everything that went wrong on Christians, there's was this one time a city burned down, and he blamed them. overall though, most places in the roman empire let them practice. the emperor Constantine [i think] decided there should be only one religion, and he choose Christianity. he didn't really outlaw Paganism, he just said the one true religion was Christianity. this caused the Christians to destroy all Pagan temples [the end of the Egyptian religion in fact, was due to Christians burning the remaining temples and killing their priests.]

the bible has never been a first hand account, people seem to overlook that fact. it was written 33 years after Jesus died by his followers, and each book [Mathew, Luke, John, Peter so on] were their accounts of Jesus, each one had different stories, and claims, the only similarities really was his birth and death. from there, leaders would pick and choose which laws they wanted by the bible, they started wars, killed people, choose eating schedules, and work days all as a result of the bible. as such, since only the wealthy could read, and the poor went to church every Sunday, the king would write the pope asking him to add/remove things from the bible because he had written a new law and it contradicted the bible [because it's the true law of the land, the word of god] that's why you have things like 'a man cannot lay with another man' [oddly enough, in the Elizabethan era, you woman could be gay, there wasn't a law because the queen thought no woman would do such a thing] and the sin to let a witch live. in fact, witchcraft was outlawed in England until 1951, while people did practice [see Gerald Gardner] if they were caught, they went to jail for ten years i believe.

the witch hunts went on for about 500 years, the most famous were in Salem. look it up, it's fascinating and disturbing all at once. [look up The Malleus Maleficarum, or Witches Hammer] basically, if you lived in the woods, or knew about herbs, or owned cats [especially black] or a bird [again, black] or looked young for your age, or just someone had it out for you. you could be killed for being a witch because it was heresy. Paganism, remember, was the main religion, and they wanted to put an end to it, and since we worshiped the Horned God, they said it was Satan. the devil, of course, is the enemy of the lord, so you've turned your back on the one true god.

so basically, the reason they're so hostile towards witches is because they've always been taught they're broomstick flying, devil kissing, children eating, christian cursing monsters that are here to make their lives hell, and turn good people wicked, and all the evil boogie man arguments you can think of. since they've been taught this since childhood, it's hard to change the mind of someone like that. not all Christians are like that, remember. just be cautious, if they reacted that way, don't mention you're a witch.

quick side note, the witch hunts, not as numerous, are still going on. while plenty of my Wiccan friends have been bullied/attacked by witch haters, there's businesses that have been vandalized, burned, and broken into because they've got something to do with the occult, workers stoned, and so on. not just in third world countries, but in the US, Canada, and UK. currently, though, there's a witch hunter from Nigeria who claims witches are still around, but the devil's targeting children. children have been kicked out of their homes, beaten, and even murdered as a result. if you want links to some of the things i mentioned, let me know.

[please note, I'm not anti-Christian, I'm generalizing. I can name plenty of other religions who hate witches.]

Not all Christians hate the craft. In Gnostic circles various forms of "higher " magicks are used. Like Kaballah. The Christians especially early used fear to get the pagans to convert. As a matter of fact magicks in various forms is all over the Bible from divination to the art of healing. Its a matter of knowing where to look. Even prayer is a form of magick to a certain extent. Which my grandmother (who's a pastor's wife) so kindly pointed out. When you really sit down and research you find most people are attached to the dogma and fear to question something that they had been raised with or got into on their own. Hate is found in every path not just Christianity. Best way to handle any situation like that is simply research and ask questions about it. The more the understanding from a certain perception the more you grow and take away from it with a new outlook.

Hah, you're not going to hell, who knows what lies after death. You're not doing anything wrong, you're not harming anyone, and chances are, the lifestyle you lead makes you more inclined to love and respect others, a lot better than many Christians, as some (just as you experienced) can be pretty close-minded and not open to other's beliefs.

Here is some reassurance for all the Christians who worry about burning in hell.

You don't have to follow the10 commandments. You can sin. I wouldn't try to but you can. You know why? Because in the Bible it says if you ask for forgivnes, say out loud that christ is son of god and died for our sins. So if you did this then your save. So don't worry.

This is for nervous, guilty CHRISTIANS. Thought you guys would like the reassurance.
