I have used all kinds of runes and i would say that if they are made from your own hand there is a stronger connection with them and you im not saying that a strong connection can not be made with runes that you buy from a store just my experience... i use witches runes a set of eight that are made from a willow branch and they are the most accurate that i have used! hope this was helpful blessed be.

Typically, to "consecrate" a set of either Elder Furthark, Younger Futhark, Anglo-Saxon Futhorc or lesser known Nordic rune sets, you are to give them life through various concepts that in a sense are quite parallel to consecration.

Many runeworkers and Norse Reconstructionists use sort of this 3step-by-step ritual or procedure(s) in order to " give life "to a set of runes. Step one ; is to give the runes form (typically by carving them yourself or have someone carve them/make them for you if you are unable to yourself.) Step two ; reddening them, this by adding blood to them or high iron-oxide red paints as contemporary alternatives and additionally: Step three ; to give the runes breath. Traditionally, this is done through singing in the form of galdr- or just to sing or pronounce them melodically in falsetto to life.
