Ultimi is right! Pick some coloured stones, especially pebbles with colour stripes; these have been formed by water. Some things may have to be bought, such as crystals. Amethyst for instance, once more valuable than diamonds; thankfully it is a bit cheaper now, but is still very useful. But, again, it is what you believe that counts. Any doctor will tell you about placebos; any Jewish mother will tell you that chicken soup is as good as any medicine. And of course it is! If you believe it is!
Brysing and Ultimi are right it is mind over matter as well as the possibility magics involvment. you could make it into a real charm if you want. it take time and effort for that to happen.
Hehehe first rule of magick. The objects themselves have no power. The power comes from you. The objects are just meant to be a focus, usually fashioned with the intent in mind. Like the example the other poster gave with the heart shaped amulet being for love. The heart shape makes you think or identify with romantic love and thus, it's an appropriate focus object.
An amulet that is purported to be for protection only has the power to invoke thoughts or images of protection in your mind as a focus piece. The magick is supplied by you.
And what about already charged amulets or stones..Lets say for instance you are shopping in an online store and you found an obeject that you are interested in and it says that it is already charged, what are the chances of it being true?

You have to judge ever store's claim of "already charged" on the merits of that store.
There are many ways to charge items, exposing them to moon/starlight is one of the most common, but also just leaving items on an altar for awhile will 'charge' them. Passing items through or near symbolic structures (like carrying at item to Stonehedge or the great Pyramids). Even passing items through the smoke of a candle will charge the item (though this is more often used for cleansing, not charging)
To understand charging, think of it like this. I am holding 2 rocks. In my left hand I hold a stone and tell you it is a stone I picked off the street this morning. In my right hand I hold a stone that I tell you came from the Great Pyramid of Giza. I allow you to take whichever stone you wish. Which do you choose?
Fundamentally they are the same, just 2 rocks. But most people will choose the Giza stone because there is some unspoken understanding that it is more than just a stone. Some people will choose the street stone, A lot of paganism is very individualized, so what one person believes and follows is not always the same as everyone else. So when looking for charged items you have to ask yourself what you believe will charge an item.
All our products come from Abyss/AzureGreen. Besides supplying pretty much all of North America with spiritual supplies for the past 25 years, the entrance to their new warehouse is a giant glass pyramid which you can see here:http://www.azuregreen.net/Aboutus.asp
As such all items we sell acutally get charged by passing through the pyramid at a minimum. Certain items such as the pre-charged ritual candles are charged further as they are created.
for the most part, you don't really need to buy anything, you can make it yourself, most of the time at half the price or more. if there is an item you are drawn to, i say get it, but if you just want an amulet for, say, protection, you can make it yourself. at the least, when you get it, charge it with your energy, purrify it, and perhaps say some chant to help.
