I must include in addition to Fallen's great post that a pendulum can be used in many other ways. One of my favorite and most commonly used is the dowsing method. And like with all techniques there are many variations of each. Dowsing is simpling diving most commonly using an item to find an item or object, or to locate something. Simply enough for me when I use my pendulum, I hold it out in front of me and ask it to simply find what is lost or missing etc. The pendulum will then start to sway or move, and you just simply follow the pendulum in the direction it pulls or takes you, until you find the item or object.
You can also use a pendulum to divine by taking it in a similar way to dowsing but using a book or some kind of media that has words/letters on it, and you cam quite easily use the pendulum in such a way like the Quija board, or you can use it to spell out the name od something or someone, to tell you things, give you divine mysteries or messages etc. The number of ways to use the tool is countless, you just have to be creative and innovative, and find which method/s work best for you.

Thanks I've had trouble getting reliable answers from my pendulum but had never heard if the clockwise/counterclockwise motion. I may have misstaken yes for no and no for yes or something to that effect.
To all of those that said thank you, you are very welcome.
@Person who asked question: You can ask your pendulum as many times as you like until your heart is content! Of course, it will change, as you said. Depending on your question, anyway.
I must also add, when you cleanse your pendulum be careful of how you cleanse it. For example different crystals may react differently to chemicals or heat temperature which may cause it to change colour :) also you can get pendulums made from different metals :)
Also, I would like to add that pendulums are not always made of crystals, as was added by somebody before, they can be made of metals, wood, runes, almost anything.
I would also like to say, instead of forking out for pendulums (although not all are expensive, depending on what they are made with.), create your own! That way, you have something to do, and a pendulum that has a natural connection to you.
I'd recommend the sun/moon method. This cleanses and charges them. Just simply leave them outside in your back garden, where nobody can take them, for 24 hours. :)
