I have never had a discussion, or read a discussion, about thought forms, servitors, tulpas, names are endless, without someone jumping up screaming, "Don't do it!"
Maybe someone who has had a lot of experience with one should give us a down to earth lecture with advice, do's and don'ts, otherwse all of us beginners are going to have servitors that we cannot control running all over the place, because the information we can access is just so attractive.
I've never made a tulpa or servitor myself, but I'm fairly sure I understand the process. I'm under the impression that these creation are essentially a autonomous manifestation of your thoughts or intentions, so please correct me if your experiences indicate otherwise. The only danger I know of when creating these things is the possibility of their developing self-awareness and desiring freedom from their creator, which may be impossible given it is created and fed by your energy. This problem takes some time to develop, however, so a simple precaution is to assign your creation one specific purpose, such as scouting a certain area, and absorbing it back into yourself when the task is complete.
For future reference, pretty much anything on creepypasta is meant to scare you rather than educate you. The kind of tulpa that man pictures (just based on your description) appears to only exist as an aspect of his personality dedicated to a specific purpose. This is merely a way of organizing your thoughts and mental processes and poses no real danger, a true tulpa exists outside of your mind and can wander freely if you allow it. Whether a tulpa can gain a physical form is a matter of debate, though I imagine it takes a massive amount of energy no single person has. (Some psychics think creatures from urban legends are granted existence by people's belief in them, though this remains unconfirmed.)
I actually have a tulpa; he is like a father to me. Tulpas can be very sweet, kind, and loving. His name is James and he helps me control my anxiety disorder. Tulpas, or at least James, are not evil. I've had James since the fifth grade and I'm coming up on my eighteenth birthday and not once has he been maleviolent(pardon my spelling).
Well, when I was younger, I lived in Irkutsk, Siberia, for 2 years. Every weekend we use to go to the Baikal lake visit the hut of an old woman that I use to call Yaga (means old, if i'm not wrong. Think of the Baba yaga), even tought her actual name was Katrina. Anyway, she used to tell me a load of old histories and one that I cannot forget is about tulpas. She said that Tulpas may seem quiet and controlled, but they can go in a way that the only thing in their mund is to murder the one who created them, and use to get really violent and dangerous with time.
Still, t'is an old story and cannot remember many info about it.

(I've made one myself, yes, and I think I've succeeded? He's completely harmless and more thoughtful than I am because you can make their own personality so he's kind of a guide to me for making the right decisions and calm myself down and focus)
The creepypasta story is just that: a story. I promise you it is nothing more.
Tulpas, on the other hand...
Tulpamancy has been a subject of interest for me in the recent weeks. I first heard of it from the very story you just spoke of, and I had to find out more. What I learned surprised me.
The word Tulpa actually originated from a Buddhist belief that was similar to its current meaning, which is basically an imaginary friend that (supposedly) develops enough to gain its own sentience. They are not harmful; they cannot cause physical harm or affect the physical realm, they cannot possess you unless you allow them to (and even then it takes great effort from both parties) and they will not turn against you.
Think about it; you are the host. Your Tulpa lives in your mind with you. Why would they kill you if it would kill them as well? Not to mention, your Tulpa will love you unless you do something very horrible to it. I mean horrible.
If you want to create a Tulpa, I'd tell you to go for it. If you want to be a part of an educated Tulpa community, I'd recommend Tulpa.info's forums or the tulpa reddit. Both are great places to start. The tulpa community has its fair share of fakes and boneheads, but so do all communities.
I have three for myself, two created accidentally and one intentionally. The accidental ones were just imaginary friends that I gave so much attention and importance to, they surprised me when they developed 'sentience'. I have them so imposed into my life I can feel them physically and as energy. I even see them at times. My intentional one (started recently) is a fair bit weaker and can't talk yet, but he's still young. He has time to grow.
i was browsing and this post caught my attention (though this was posted way back in Apr 2012)
this is all based from my experience. My family have this gift of sight as some may say, its a natural thing, unlike others we dont really need to use any symbols or spells, all purely concentration of thought. i was a teenager back then and we know how young blood's interest in the lore is really high. there was this point in time when my emotions were so full, i drew a portrait of an old woman in tattered clothes with pale and thin skin, long limbs and fingers. and i looked at her all day with thoughts of her eating all my fear and anger. at the end of the day i felt the weight on my chest was all gone. the following days for more than a week span, our neighbors began talking about seeing an old lady in the house up to the point that one of my auntie (who is also psychic) asked me in terror what did i do, which at that time i was totally clueless.
i found out that our neighbors and even my aunt saw an old lady that looks exactly as my drawing(after i showed it to her) and i was terrified that time so i burnt the drawing, noone ever saw that creepy lady afterwards.
those who will create a tulpa, i would suggest you put positive thoughts to it instead of feeding it with anything negative.
