I agree. It is a sad fact that many people see themselves as all powerful just because they can weave a few strings of energy and get a spirit to talk to them.
And I am glad you all think that way. Thank you for the support :)
I could not agree more, and most summoning methods not only bring forth but trap a spirit as well for a short time. Its almost humorous to think of the folly that people bring upon themselfs to have something done by a seemingly almighty spirit without thinking of what said spirit would do after being relieced.
I respect the post but I disagree. I myself conjure Daemons and other entities to carry out spells that I cast. This causes my spells to work with haste. Also when scrying it can be really enlightening to work with and communicate with these Deities. Praying should be reserved to the xtian god, since prayers can be an inefficient way to communicate and there is no telling if or when they answer you. Now don't get me wrong I always have an offering for any Daemon or Deity I decide to conjure, but I will not stop my work for it has been and will continue being an amazing journey for me. Most posts on here that I see about conjuring or someone asking about conjuring, are followed by one to many posts on to many reasons why you shouldn't do it. To each his own but if someone is curious let them do it don't scare them out of it. Everyone has the right to experience something as amazing as this. There is always room to grow and learn in this field of study. If someone wants to learn how to conjure send me your request and I'll teach you a simple and easy method to conjure. thank you.
This position appears to be based upon the idea that summoned beings lives similar to our own, which is simply not true. Deities, demons, angels, and other commonly summoned folk do no have a singular existence - the fact that two different people in two different places can both call upon Gabriel in the LBRP at the same time makes this very evident.
When you summon an angel you're not snatching it out of bed and forcing it to work for you, you're contacting an angel doing angelic things and then, without interrupting what he's already doing, you cause him to do a different angelic thing.
It is not rude, it is not taxing, and the belief that summoning is either of those comes from believing that angels are people like us in a world like ours, not higher beings residing in a real we cannot conceive of.
"without giving it a choice in the matter."
-actually, this is just a judeo-christian ideology of summoning.. not all summoning rituals do this.. in a judeo-christian summoning ritual, they also command the entity to show up with a pleasing look not asking the entity if it like it that way or not..
"If you leave one with unhappy thoughts about you you might fall into bad situations."
-again, this is a judeo-christian ideology of summoning.. that is why you have to leave some offerings to it not just because of his service but also to give thanks to it in attending to your ritual..
"A being's abilities may vary. It might begin to torment your thoughts, or steal your energy, or, if it is considerably powerful, it can even try to harm you in a physical way. "
-that is why before you perform such summoning ritual, you must at all cost be prepared.. there are preliminary invocation rituals before the actual summoning.. one good example is of the summoning of the watchers (fallen/demon), before you go to the actual summoning ritual you must perform first some invocation rituals to seek knowledge (invocation to tartrota--lilith will give you insights about your current state if it's OK for you to continue or not yet;seeking the mountains of azza and azzael-seeking the wisdom of these two fallen so as to align yourself or gets you more in tune with the watchers)..
"So, the bottom line is, please, for your sake, do not summon."
-one good characteristic that a magician should possess is "TO DARE." you can't measure your wisdom if you do not experience.. sometimes, a person will only learn if he/she got hurt..
"It would be far better to use another method, such as channeling or praying. They have both been tested and used by other people so they work."
-one man's happiness is another man's pain.. not all are applicable to all individuals.. like me, i prefer to summon rather than to just pray..
-its just like, if you have problems and you want someone to talk to, you are not contented to have someone listen to you only on the phone but rather talk to him/her personally.. ;)
-this are just my perspective thou.. please do not misinterpret..
good post really, but its a bit one-sided (for me)..
I respect what you have said and, believe me, I have no wish to turn this into an argument. However I wish to defend my position by pointing to what I said in the post: that is you do summon you should pay "a thousand respects". As for the snatching bit, I meant is metaphorically, meaning that you are taking some of their time, so at least we should be grateful. After all, not all entities are friendly.
Nevertheless, all of you made good points and I do not want to discourage people from doing what they wish. Simply do what you do with care for yourself and others.

I'd like to point out that I never said I agreed or disagreed with Kellan. To each their own. It's Kellan's opinion, because he does hold a point for beginning magick practioners. They won't be respected by whatever they summon, they won't know what to do, they will probably do it "to see if they can" or "because it's cool" and they're liable to anger something way over their heads. I merely commented on my own style.
However, I would like to add that neopagans have made magick more pretty than it originally was/is. Read Aradia: the Gospel of Witches (can be found for free) for a great example of how witches not asked, not bartered, but commanded. I personally think it's a fantastic piece of literature. But of course, I personally don't recommend to do such things only because I know 95% who read this are not experienced enough to handle it. I specifically declaw my posts for the kids. =)
