Actually come to think of it there are many "Necronomicons" out there. Althogh they aren't necisarily called "the necronomicon" they still are "the book of the dead" there is the Egyptian Book of the Dead, The Tibian Book of the Dead, and one by Christian Day: The Witches Book of The Dead(to name a few). Although the book called the necronomicon is a love craft story there are still religious manuscripts of death and the afterlife from many ancient cultures.

There is a fictional work by H.P. Lovecraft, however there are some copies of the necronomicon that talk about the sigils of the spirit and the gates to the Babylonian Deities. The Cthulhu Mythos is fictional however the calls to Ishtar, Marduk and such are all examples of very old ceremonial magick. However in this day and age the rituals are almost impossible to practice.
The Necronomicon was based on the stories of H P Lovecraft but the most well read copy was written by Simon. Although reputed to be a work of fiction it contains references to ancient Sumerian gods and spell, incantations and seals to assist you to work with them if you so wish. Aside from opening the gates to the underworld much of the magical working are not particularly complicated and relate to banishment, exorcism, execrations and protection magick.
As for the Sumerian gods the magick relates to actually existed it could be argued that working with them using the necronomicon and achieving favorable outcomes is possible if you focus your will and intention. It could also be argued that many magick practitioners believe in the power of the necronomicon and that increases it's validity as a relevant tool.
I finished with the american book of the dead on april fools day 2010... Dont want to ruin it for anyone else so i will just say this: if you have read it and remdmber the end you may find it funny. If i find a tibetin book of the dead i want to read that too.
While the Book itself is fictional the Simon guy wrote one based on actual Sumerian/Babylonian Mythology and actual magickical principles,with a small dash of H.P.Lovecraft thrown in,thus the rites and spells with in it have been know to work if the person knows their poop when it comes to magick.
Now before anyone goes to blasting me let me explain how if it has actual lovecraft elements in it that it'll work( as best as I can) back in the day when Lovecraft was writing his yarns people knew it was fiction but still him and his readers put thought into such being as Kutulu a.k.a Cthulhu, and then you have people of my generation (i'm 41) and my parents generation who did not have access to the fiction magazines of Lovecrafts time ,nor the great myth maker and destroyer known as the internet ( that was just being developed by the U.S.Army during my youth)and not having neither of these things you had two generations through reading his books,playing the Role play game Call of Cthulhu,and then when the Simon necronomicon hit the shelves rushing out and scooping it up basically putting all out thought and energy in to the necronomicon doing those rituals,in it and believeing etc etc.
To the point now the Cthulhu Mythos entities are now genuine valid thoughtforms/archetypes,so what started as the products of Hr. Lovecrafts nightmares and imagination in general have taken on a life of their own so to speak and become true thoughtforms,just like the Gods,Goddesses,demons,daemons,spirits etc etc of other cultures past and present!

Imaginary friends, demons, genies (islamic hawass), ghosts may be considered as thoughtforms too. In my humble opinion, I think that many Gods and Goddesses can be considered as thoughtforms too.
