I am quite amused that I should be thought "a Wiccan". I had never even heard that word until I joined this site!. My teaching was all about the ancient mysteries; the life cycle of animals; the sacred dimensions. In fact, "natural" magic. The magic that is knowledge. The knowledge of the "wise ones" of old. Really, I am learning much more about "modern" witchcraft from this site than I could ever teach about the "old ways". Yes, it may well be that I am not "Hip to the age"; and I am thankful for it! I cannot change now! I am too old!
I just do not understand how someone can be a christen Witch?
Christen's have burned Witches alive in the thousands! They do not accept Witch in gods house. A Witch may want to be Christen but a Christen is not allowed to be a Witch, That is like putting ketchup on chocolate cake they just don't mix well
Temptress, you are basing your judgment on mans interpretation of Gods will. Unless you have spoken to the Christian God personally, I don't really think anyone has room to say what does and does not ''mix well''.
Bit of fact, most people who were burned were only accused of being witches. Most, in fact, were Christians.
A Christian witch, in my opinion, faces more scrutiny than a Pagan any day of the week. They follow their heart while still believing in and worshiping their God, despite people everywhere telling them they are wrong for it, they trust in their faith enough to continue on what they feel is right and trust that their God is leading them.
When you're criticized by the Christian community, and the Occult community, but still go on strong..you get a couple gold stars in my book.
I do have to add some history here. In the Basque country of Spain and France Witchcraft shares its presence with the Catholic Church. I travel to the Northern part of Spain often and have made friends with Basque Witches who Sybil Leek calls," Witches who are miles behind modern times." They are also very very powerful. However they still share their jurisdiction with Catholic priests. As one old Spanish lady told me," We keep both the Witch and the Priest, if they can't get along we ask for another Priest." She said they were Baptized, Confirmed, Married and Buried by the Priest, everything else they go to the Witch. I found it fascinating. The Basque Witches also use Catholic Saints in some of their spells, they particularly are attracted to Angels. In Voodoo, all the opening prayers are Catholic Prayers. Originally they were said as a protection against the Catholic slave owners as most Voodooists came over to Haiti as slaves. So when the owners heard their slaves saying a good Catholic Prayer they were not alarmed. If they would have stuck around, they would have been shocked to hear them conjuring African Spirits. In modern Voodoo today every ceremony still starts with Catholic prayers. So... throughout the world religions do mix, usually in fairly isolated communities, and it has been going on for decades. I guess they just got used to each other. Rilke
During this very diverse time of year. When pagans are celebrating the winter solstice and Christians have the birth of their god's son. We also have other holidays that are religious and cultural going on. I must say that to think that a christian can not practice magic is ethnocentric. Magic exists in all religions even though it may have a different word to describe the action. I grew up in a Christian extended family. Over the years all of my different ancestors from Germany have traditions that evolved from pagan roots.
Not only have I witness Christians making magical crafts to ward against "witch craft". I personally have used them in my own repertoire of castings. I am from Pennsylvania Dutch heritage. The hex sign seen throughout the christian area I live is a common sight on the sides of out buildings and inside of peoples homes. The magical sign has many different symbols and meanings that protect the believer from evil and blesses their lives. Along with other folk magic practices, these are German traditions that dwell within the lives of these devout Christians. I have hung on my tree each year a set of 12 ornaments for a German brides tree. My Christian aunt gave them to me as a bridal gift. Some of them are; a pine cone for motherhood and fruitfulness, a heart for true love, a bird for happiness and joy, and a fish for Christs' blessing. These are "witch crafts" that are used by these Christians to aid in the lives of those who have faith in them. I personally see the fish as Christs' blessing since I not only grew up in a Christian house but that to me Christ is another title much like Buddha.
A witch can be a person of any religion if they have faith in using crafts to aid magically in their lives. A Jewitch is one that relies on the Kabbalah. A Christian witch is one who adds a christian flare to their craft. A Buddhist witch is one who uses Buddhist teachings combined with casting.
What I don't understand is why humans seek to point out each other differences when we have so many similarities that are more important.
I hope all have a bright and happy holiday season with many blessing :)
God in christianity forbides ussage of magic and any forms of idol worsshiping. If you are a witch then u are a witch if you are Gods servant, than you use only love of God...unless you are gifted by the holy ghost to heal and help others, that's it. Paganism and Monotheism have nothing in common. If you Christians know your God truly than you now that I'm right. When you seek and test God only devil will show up.
But that's just me..
