Nek, i have experienced a few demons in my time, and the ones i've been confronted by were negative in there energies. I'm not saying they are all this way as i've met one or two who aren't bad in any way, but because they had "horns" and a "nastily long tail" they were dubbed demons.
And you are right, with the perversions of most mainstream religions the reality of some things is slightly misconscrewed, and in the end is truely left up to the persons own determining whether it is good or bad.
For example to Flagg Humans are evil, there are killers, rapists and pedophiles. Yet a woman can claim to kill her children to protect them form the world and sent them to heaven. I dont think demons are evil at all, at least you see them for what they really are, Its better with the one you know then the one you dont.

like if you hate a human, I dont think that person will like you. so if you hate demons, they will propably hate you and do harm, they can also come to you in a not attractive form.
its like racism if you say all demons are bad, but ofcourse some people talk about evil beings as demons.

a demon is orginally a wise being, but a demon is also an evil spirit. and both are different, some people just use the term demon to mean different things.
for Vari a demon seems to be any being from the astral plane. just like animals are any animals for us, even though there are many different animals and some are dangerous, some not. same for demons.
I prefer to use the demon word as the wise but dangerous beings.
demons act with their own mind, so they usually think which is best for themselfs.
what is dragon?
for me its a wise creature, so they have also knownledge like demons do. they live in the astral plane, like all the magical creatures do. they are balanced with good and evil, so they are like humans with that side. I also think that dragons use the different elements the most from other beings.
What are Angles?
angels are beings that guide and guard us, they dont really seem to have much of their own mind, but they dont really come always if you ask, so they see whats the best for all.
They are like spirit mothers, they watch that we learn to take care of ourselfs but protect us when we really need it, maybe thats why little kids see angels more often?
What are Fairies?
the nature spirits, who act on their own minds.
can steal things from us, can be help. whatever they want.
