Tai Chi is the oldest and the highest form of martial arts. The slower you move through the motions, the more you can feel it. Elderly can do it. What is this secret to the Asian military?
I practise tai chi(my friend teaches it) i find it a great focus as you have to control the movements precisley. Its a good way of getting energy flowing around the body. I don't use it for "magick" as such but i find it a good way to ground and relax.
Tai chi can be very handy in teaching certain basics within energy manipulation, when you get lost in the flow of your own body and energy and step outside of it for a moment you connect to the universal energy and flow around you, now seeing and feeling that flow is one of the biggest steps in understanding and using it, anything that keeps your mind focused on self instead of tv is very good in todays times.
Kyrinn, I'm pretty sure people wouldn't be going for a slow speed if they were in a fight. Generally doing certain things slow puts more of a strain on your muscles, so if they practice in slow movement it may be to help keep their muscles fit. If you would like to test the theory, do two push-ups.
On the first one go as fast you can, be done almost as soon as you start. You should be able to do it in under 3 seconds. After you have done that rest for a second, wait for your arms to feel perfectly fine. Now do the second push-up, slowly. Count down from thirty as you go down and back up to thirty as you go up. You'll notice that your arms felt allot more stress on the second push-up then they did on the first.
And people criticize me for taking my time with exercising. lol.
i feel insulted
tai chi is NOT a useless martial art.
tai chi is instead one of the BEST that can take on any western or european ma
what you see is just people practicing the different parts/forms of the basic foundation.
you don't use what they practice to fight,
you use what you learn, you apply the concept,
it's not like any other martial art.
you learn this move, you use this move, no.
too different.
find some chinese martial art tv shows, even if it's not a documentary and a drama ,you can still understand better.
Tai Chi Chuan is the name for the martial art not Tai Chi to i just learnt that
Taichi is useless as i say against something that moves faster than it taichi, even when sped up requires you to move slow enough to counter the others move but if the other changes speeds randomly e.g. drunken monkey or Southern mantis style, would overwhelm the tai chi artist, there are acceptions to masters who can learn to adapt but it is still a flawed art and needs to be refined :P
