I try to keep in on the down low, but i'm an empath. I'm working on controlling it at the moment though. My brain has enough to handle without adding more emotions into the picture
Same with myself, its the controlling I can't accomplish.
Eventually my whole body shakes and then I am violently sick.
I cant even deal with my own emotions never mind everyone elses.
Maybe we all need help dealing with it.

Get better in what sense? More details need to be provided. For all we know, the problem just needs someone telling you to get over it. Desiring to be more powerful, control your reception?

You need to practice 'being aware of, but not attaching to it'. Think of the waves of emotions as waves of water that you're floating in in an ocean of emotions. You're rising up and down, swaying back and forth. You're aware of the waves, but you aren't going under.
With me it's not so much the emotions as the pain from the sick that I pick up. With me I'm always suffering one thing or another and more often than not it's not my own without my other majickal friends I'd never know what was my own to be able to get shot of what isn't. As far as the emotional side goes I can handle that with a pinch of salt. I know where there is dispute, I know where there is anger, happyness, etc. If I don't pay paticular attention and block it off it hits me like a fork truck. Best way of learning to control this power is to think of a loved one and concentrate fully on them and say "I do not want to feel what others are feeling today, today I need to be for me and my family." If you are lucky enough to know someone who can shut us down you could also ask then to partially shut the power down while you get used to it in your own time and your own way.
Oh and the biggest thing if you dont do it already, learn how to ground. You just pass all your unwanted energies out do not take any in.
1. Sit or stand with legs apart and slighty bent and picture all the negative energies building around your waist in a ring.
2. when you feel ready lift the energy circle over your head and throw out a window. (unless you are like me where brick is just as air then it will bounce back at you as it is not an exit)
I do not know about that... O_O I need the person close to me to know how they feel... ^_^ I am apathetic yet empath. I feel their emotions but i do not sympathize with them... so you can say I am quite good distinguishing the emotions from people.
A visual for control can be the radio transmitter/receiver example. Think of yourself as one and picture the vibrations that you give off as changing. A color change of your choice is good. Seeing the waves change in intensity and/or size works.
