I've made talismans and such a similar, but more direct, way. These rituals are basically to call on the energy you wish to imbue int what ever object or spell based on your spiritual beliefs, as the ritual itself serve to the same end and focus the intent. That being said, I find it easier and more effective to Use the energy and my will to focus and manipulate it.
For example, when I made a protection one, I used a ring of mine and held it in my hands, focusing on the Light I intended to use. I then chanelled it, my focus on it and its great power and the feeling of the love and joy in its most pure eminate to and from me and bound it to the ring. It can also be used for banishings, spells and the like depending on the energy used.
Rituals are effective thougb I see them as a crutch that holds us back from grasping the power to do these things ones self.
It wasnt for my protection, and you misunderstand my meaning. Rituals, chanting or making spells all serve to activate the same energies and what not that our will alone can do. I've seen practioners who rely on them too much that they stop to grow in their experiences.

sol12, did you use the "Circulation Of The Body Of Light" (from the LBRP (Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, for those of you who don't know and are learning), to focus or gather your energies and direct them to the ring?
I do this.
It's okay. I don't mean to say they aren't effective, but once you get to the point you can use the energy and do these things yourself, rituals seem to waste more time than they save, and the relliance on them can keep ones potential from stepping up.
To answer the second post, No, I stick to my own script. To chanel the Light I refer to is to connect with the higher energies and their source, becoming one with the force of Life itself. The Collective, if you will. The same can be done in opposite with the force of Death for other purposes.
Interesting. The "Circulation..," does exactly that too, but not the dark force connecting part.
There are many ways to manipulate the "Circulation" of energies generated, acquired directly from the Higher Source performing the LBRP. I have performed many patterns just standing and practicing. Changing up the pattern so to speak, so I can be comfortable in my use of it, like embuing Divine light energy into a Talisman. Cool.
I've created a few talismans, one of my favorites was a ring. The purpose was to help devote myself to practicing kundalini. I carved a ring in the shape of a coiled snake out of the stone serpentine. Worked great! =)
