Perhaps, though you may need to develop a relationship with it, make it some sort of offering/sacrifice, or have proper powers to control it (often in the form of talismans and holy names). But what is it you want it to help you with?
some spells are that way. You might find that with time your spells execute more quickly. Practice makes perfect and if all of your spells are working then kudos to you.
you do not summon something for somethings sake, that's a horrible idea you need a good reason to summon something, how would you feel if someone would call you to rush over with no explanation while you're doing something really important and then when you finally get there and ask whats so important the person answers nothing, now amuse me.

As said by a few people if your a beginner you should not step into summoning as it is dangerous and if something goes wrong while summoning it can have terrible conseqences .
In my experience, familiars and the like are beings that come to you rather then you choosing them. Usually there is a lesson to be learned that they would like to teach you, and whether you recognize and learn from it is entirely up to you. As other's have stated here, these beings aren't to be used as tools or amplifiers, but as guides and friends. I would even go as far as to say not even your ritual tools themselves such as wands and staffs are not to be treated as tools in the common sense, for making or even choosing such things is a very personal thing in my opinion. Now, if you are in fact searching for a familiar, totem, spirit guide, what have you as a companion and friend, then a certain amount of studying and reference would be a good place to start in attracting such beings. It will take just as much if not more time than these spells you are casting, but I promise you the rewards are very much worth it. The consequences are just as bad however if you decide to mistreat them, and most won't even come if they sense ulterior motives. So study up, learn about your new potential friend, then maybe look for a calling meditation or ritual to start attracting them.
