But im not wiccan so i wouldn't go by that term. so then back to my question if you aren't wiccan (like me) then wouldn't a male witch be called a wizard
If you are not wiccan and don't class yourself as wiccan then why would you chose ibewiccan as a username? and also why do you have the longest version of the The Wiccan Rede posted on your profile wouldn't a Pagan Rede or similar be more apt?
Also if your looking for an ancient terminology for a male witch I would think the word you're looking for would be sorcerer and sorceress for a female witch and as Lark said all wiccans are witches regardless of gender.
Wow, quite the debate here. I choose to not concern myself with all the terminology wars, and call myself by my own name. Titles are unimportant unless you are going into politics.
Witch is a term for male and female, to describe someone who uses magick. Warlock is an olde English word meaning traitor, so that's wrong. Sorcerer was defined in earlier times as someone who uses poison and dark magic, so unless that's what you use, it's also incorrect. And all Wiccans aren't witches. I know Wiccans who don't practice magick. And all witches aren't Wiccan, witchcraft is a non denominational practice. Wicca is a pagan religion, but not all pagans are Wiccans. Strictly speaking, pagan is a religion which is polytheistic, or believe in many gods/goddesses. The term pagan was used in the Christian Bible, to describe any religion which doesn't worship the Christian God. But pagan really means country folk, from Latin, so pagan is any religion prior to Chrisitanity. (Old Religion)
I chose the name because Im not Wiccan, its a joke, get it now?
And i put the Wiccan rede on my profile because i go by the rede but it doesn't necessarily mean i have to be Wiccan in order to follow it now does it?
Warlocks are betrayers to the coven and a grave insult to us all, I would slap anyone who called me a warlock out of their ignorance or their spite, it is a personal attack to those who are called it
I was a witch, fully initiated, for many years before the word Wicca was coined by Gerald Gardner. In modern times the word witch has been corrupted into all sorts of varied beliefs. One of these posts describes wicca as a male witch and wicce as a female witch. Not true! The words mean wise man and wise woman. Many are wise without being witches; and there are witches who are not at all wise! And most of the "magic" of witchcraft is knowledge of the way Nature works; knowledge of the healing qualities of herbs, and lots of other "knowledge".
