Substitute for flames?

I go to a university and live in a dorm room. Unfortunately, the use of candles & incense is prohibited, and thus I am limited in spellcraft.

Is there any substitute for candles and incense that I could possibly use, or do I just have to wait until I go home and can burn things?

One aspect of working with candles is color magic. You can certainly find ways to incorporate color into your workings in other ways.

The fire of a candle releases energy. Release energy by disposal at a crossroads, energy work, flushing down a toilet, burying in the earth, disposal in water, etc.

Magical incense consists of ground herbs/resins added to some sort of base. If your incense has no botanicals it's only for atmosphere (which is important too). Working with herbs myself fairly extensively, i have found that just being in proximity to the herbs subjects myself and my workings to their power.

For example, i'm doing a peaceful home spell. I would choose to work with Sandalwood as a plant helper. If i couldn't burn it as an incense, i would keep a little dish of it on my working surface (altar). I would still call on it's spirit to help me, maybe dust my hands with it, add it to the spell components: papers, waters, bottles, whatever, and still benefit from its presence. This is one example of how to incorporate our herbal helpers without burning them and without dressing candles with them.

You may want to look up a quality spiritual supplier who makes products using real botanicals. If you had some herbally-infused oils to work with, bath crystals, and powders, you'd have a nice little arsenal of herbal helpers and no need to burn candles or incense.

Just my suggestions; certainly there are many other ways.
Best of luck
