question

i have a spell that calls for black candles but theres no where around here that sells them. would it work just as well if i colored in a white candle with black marker?

Above all, magic is meant to be practical. That's not to say, though, that one should be overly generous with substitutions as a common practice.

Although it would not be my first choice (my first choice would be to wait on the spellwork while i hunted down some black candles or mail-ordered them), in a pinch you could probably use a black Sharpie to black out the white candles. I would pray while i did so, infusing the candles with your intent. I would also add some helpers to your doctored-up "black" candle in the form of a related magical oil (condition oil) and some ground herbs/powders. That would help reinforce the work too.

You can sometimes find black candles in the home decorating section of certain shops. Yankee Candle Company, while far far from a magical candle company, does make a black scented candle. I think it's called something like Midsummer's Night Dream.

Online shopping is a great resource too (only if you're of age, though).

I belive its no problem to color a white candle black...
The spell itself,comes frome your mind..the rest is just a rituale around spellcasting.I use what i have,no problems.

would think so... all candles are white to begin with anyway.
they are colored in a factory...and factory as nothing to do with spellcasting.
My personal opinion: it will have better effect if you color it yourself.
Buy a lot of candles in diffrent color just gets expensive.
Magic shuldnt cost anything.

Any colour will do. It doesn't have to strictly be black because that's what people CONSIDER to be the colour of evil along with red. The characterizations of any coliur are whatever you want them to be.

I agree a white candle will work as a substitute,butI dont agree that all people see Black and Red as colors of evil.I know of a wedding being planned right now,where the main colors are Black and red,lol

Seriously though, white will work as a substitute. Actually, you do not need candles for spell at all. Your intent will ( or should ) be enough.
