Ok we have The Monsanto Corp , that has saturated the market with GMO foods now we will have Drugs from genetically Engineered animals ... Does anyone care about this ?
Here in Australia it's not quite that bad but getting there. I try very hard not to buy anything that has been genetically modified but it is hard as they don't have to advertise the fact. It's a worry. What about you Pan where do you stand on this issue??
I hate Monsanto corp , they try to monopolize every market and yes they do not have to label anything , that is why alot of people are shopping at places like whole foods .In Europe thou I thought they have to label that they are GMO .
I have absolutely no problem with this, I'm a selfish bastard and I love meat.
About this though..
"Eco-friendly Animals - Researchers created the Enviropig in 2001, a pig that can excrete 60 percent less phosphorus than normal pigs, reducing pollution."
On kangaroo meat packets, it says kangaroos are a win(environment)+win(you) situation cause they jump a lot - higher in protein, and they also don't produce as much gas as cows. I guess it's a lose situation for the kangaroo, but I didn't do the slaughtering.. I just want to eat the nice meat from Woolworths =O
About the GMO, they have been using mice to generate drugs all the time, I've talked to a scientist during work experience at CSIRO, though they do try to use bio-reactors (cylinder things to grow vaccines in) to try to save SOME mice.
Here's a short description how they produce vaccines with mice.
Inject dead cells similar to human vaccines, into mice. Mice produces A LOT of vaccine, becomes bloated.
Scientists kill mice to extract vaccine.
Anyone got a problem with that? They're mice, but they've been specifically bred to produce vaccine.
Why not use bio-reactors? Very slow, not as "efficient" and more expensive.
I don't see anything wrong with modifying an animal... as long as its only to produce a specific thing, and they always have the original species alive, I hope they produce the milk and artificially create something from the milk to treat whatever they want to treat though.. and destroy their lab species.
Okay , so how do you feel about cloning ? pretty soon we will be eating cloned chickens ( not me ) yuck who is to say , some mad scientist decides to clone humans , what do you think about that ?
