Tools can be a big part of magick. Some people use them regularly, some people simply start with them. some spells and rituals call for it for specific reasons.
A tool is pretty much anything that you can use that is not yourself. You are either borrowing it's energy, or using it as a symbol.
Broom ( or Besom )- Though it may seem cliche, a broom is used to sweep away negative energy.
Wand- a wand is an object that helps you project your energy to a person, place, thing, ect. It also holds its own magickal properties based on type of wood, symbols drawn into it, gems and crystals added and so forth.
Insence - helps to purify an area, as well as can help you reach an alter state of consciousness.
Athame- This is associated with the God. It is never used for cutting, but is used for drawing and directing energy. Usually a double edge knife.
Cauldron- Associated with the Goddess. This can be used to make potions, burn herbs, filled with water for scrying, burning a spell paper, used for offerings, ect.
Pentacle- Symbol of Earth, Air, Fire, Water and the Spirit. ( I think we all know what it looks like lol ) Used for protection to wear, or put on an alter. Depending on the size of it, it can be used to place offerings on, or jewlery for blessings and such.
Chalice- A symbol of the Goddess and fertility, it is a cup used to hold water, wine, or any other drink for rituals.
Bell- A bell is used to invoke the Goddess, and also can be rung at the begining and end of a spell to symbolize the....well...begining and end.
Candles- Can be used as a spell itself, the color, scent and any added ingredients should coinside with the intent of the spell. You can use the flame to gather energy, write on the candle your intentions and then burn it to start the spell. The candle is a multi purpose items.
Herbs- Used for healing, baths, soaps, added to candles, soaps, food, burned in general. The " vibrations " of the herbs attract specific types of things. For example, using all spice in food or bath can inscrease prosperity.
Crystals- A natural source of energy they can be used to enhance spells, heal, attract certian things, calm you down, ect.
I don't think this is a complete list, so please feel free to add to it or correct anything if needed.
Refference: http://www.geocities.com/Fourmagick/tools.html and cross refferenced with to many sites to list.
Sword - Used to open the gates, an agressive tool not to be used to call in the deities, but can be used to call in the elements, as well as directing energy. NOTE: as with any ritual blade it is not to draw blood it is disrespectful to your blade to draw blood and then not continue to feed it.
Cingulum - a nine foot long cord of red silk, woll, or cotton that is knotted at Initiation and worn with the robe, kept on the altar, or wrapped around a tine of the stang or around the top of the staff.
Boline - a cutting tool used in magickal work to inscrie candles, cut herbs, cut thread, or any other such use. Traditioally a two - edged blade with a white handle, but any tool designated as the working tool may be used.
Stang - May use this instead of an Altar, by stiking it into the ground or placing within a stand; decorated for the sabats.
Musical instruments - may use drums, bells, flutes, harps, sistrums, cymbgals, gourd rattles, other rattles, etc. to aid in meditation, spell casting or energy raising.

Great post everyone...Just to add a couple more.Im Shamanistic magick you may also kave
A Medicine wheel: Its a hand made circle similar in outside shape to a dream catcher, but on the iside it has a cross similar to the christian cross, its used to draw energy from the 4 direcetions(dieties). It is very rarely seen by outsuders and is one of the most respected Items a Shaman can posses.
In addition to drawing energy, each direction is said to represent a positive path for the owner.
North;Personal Ballance(watch it Healer,lol)
South : Spiritual Integrity
East:Physical Health
West:True Humility.
Also there are whats called Thunder Sticks; These .Im not sure how many tribes these are used by.But they are basically 2 plain sticks that can have only the smallest amount of adornment.
In legend when a person was struck by lightning it was because they didnt heed the warning of the gods when they raised their voice(Thunder)
By blessing the thundersticks,it was believed that when the thunder sounded and it vibrated through the sticks the gods would see the person as nothing more than a tree and he would therefore go unpunished..
Its ben a long time since I was told the legend of the Thundersticks but Im pretty sure thats how it went, lol
This post just reminded me that these could be seen as tools also
For example if you do a love or a luck spell, you can write the spell on paper, add the proper herbs, roll it towards you ( to bring in ) and burn it to enhance what you are doing.
