It's my specialty :D
I think magic is at the heart of it just about focusing your will, and that can be done in any way -- chants, tools, and yes movement or physical contact -- the magical energy can correspond to our body, so because there are so many nerve endings in our palms and fingertips the "body of light" or personal energy is also highly concentrated there.

Not really spells, it's more a technique... I'm not heavily into elemental magick, but don't see why you can't use hand magic with the elements somehow. You may also want to look into Tai Chi or Reiki. Here's a few things I've done:
1.) Psychometry. Once, I was able to know what was inside an opaquely wrapped present my aunt gave me for Christmas. Okay, it was rectangular and bendy like a softbound book would be so I knew it was a book, but when I passed my hand over one side I could feel a distinct shape "glowing" on the cover, and when I opened it there it was the exact shape -- printed, not embossed, so I couldn't have physically felt it.
2.) Shielding and Warding. My first time shielding, I could feel the energy coming out of my palms but if I started walking it was like I "left behind" the energy instead of carrying the shield around me... I'd made a ward instead because I hadn't centered properly I found out later but at first-- okay, at second, the looking on the bright side part, I was able to express through my hands psychic energy strong enough to be felt.
3.) Telepathy. I have some difficulty "vibe-ing", so for something like telepathy I use psiballs instead, with handforms so I can feel its shape but the energy I put in is like a coded thought. I cup my hands, then flatten them out as if they're full of dandelion puffs that I'm going to blow away, and that's how I send the thought. For some reason (I think because I use this technique in a very physically concerned state of mind,) I've only gotten it to work short undisturbed distances.
Not sure if you're still active on the site, but I've done some pretty interesting spells using my hands. its my specialty as well. Are you still practicing and gaining with this technique? its been 13 years so I'm intrigued as to what you've learned.
To contribute to the post:
Ill first start off by saying that to me, magick is best put as the expression of will and intent and that a "spell" is the "air" or condition(s) that has been created. The spell, "air"/condition, creates an affect of equal proportion to the clarity and potency of the "air"/condition that has been created. I see "casting" as the pushing out or formulating of a spell.
I use my hands in indescribable ways in maneuvering with my will and create a condition or path or air for the fabric of past, present, or future to follow. It can be difficult to describe. In the time of casting what is felt is: the air/condition I aim to obtain( felt strongly/wholly) and an understanding through feeling of the pieces I must move to achieve the condition."pieces" referring to the maneuvering of will discussed prior, like constructing a sentence in will.
A great example of a spell I've done is a probability spell. If you are playing a card game with a group of people and winning is completely and utterly based on luck, what depicts your winning? "Luck"/probability is just how often the "right" thing falls in your lap. I thought about this and dwelled heavily on it as the game was about to start. I then realized that the deck felt like undecided fate. untouched and unclaimed. As though it was for anyone's taking. I hid my left hand where no one could see and started casting on the probability(outcome) of the deck, shifting all the probability to my side, feeling my victory and shifting it there. we played 7 rounds and i won every single one with no one coming at all close. i was casting the entire game as well, at every single point I was casting: shuffling, cutting, dealing, and even right before hands were picked up. I noticed it felt like once the cards were seen there wasn't much I could do, per the circumstances of the spell.
I'm aware I didn't talk about how to use the hands. This was on purpose as I haven't compared techniques with anyone before to determine if it's a universal technique. At this point, the hands just express my will which interns produces the spell.
Magick can be casted through the hands. As the hands are extremely and infinitely expressive.
