I know this could be a unpopuler subject, but I do politics for a living and I am also a Priest in Wicca and have combined both for years. It came in handy a few years ago when I was asked to be an advisor to help push the V.A. to accept the pentacle as a legitimate symbol for our veterans who wanted to have it on their Government headstones. It was a very interesting fight, but we won, and ever since Wicca is now literally accepted in stone. Like the Civil rights movement, and the Gay movement I believe it is now time for Pagans to get more involved in politics. Run for office, organize around issues important to you, keep informed. We are ready to start making a splash. Of course, we should start slow, instead of running for President we should run for County commisioner. Once people see that you can do the job, they are much less concerned about what religion you are. The lower offices also have the advantage of being pretty low under the radar, and they are excellent as a training ground for higher, more profile offices. In my area we are training pagans as we speak to learn how government works, and how to run for public office. We have the support of many elders who agree now is the time to begin. What do you think?
I personally support the ideas of furthering the education of Wicca. People need to have awareness in order to create more aceptance within the communities, I have seen many news reports that obviously give misleading ideas about this religion. If we are solidify and to promote the involvement of our people within government we have to educate our peers. In the end, most bashing in the upper posts and elections occur because from religious beliefs, or past incidents of the individuals. Not to mention, there are areas that will certainly not allow capable Wiccans in such posts (due to their very conservative nature)
Any motions that peacefully call to creating awareness to relieve us from racism and prejudice is a thumbs up for me. Even politics shouldn't be about religion, but about your capabilities and ideas on progress.
am so glad this topic has been brought up am a politician for five years currently holding a very important office that has to do with the right of women hoping to contest for a higer office l hope l will be surpported
Good for you, if you need help I can help you. I an new to this site so I dont want to break any rules, but perhaps we can find a way to assist you in your endeavors. We are trying to help pagans all over the country. Rilke
I appreciate all the people who took the time to read my post. We need to raise the awareness level that the world of politics and Wicca are compatible. Like in magic, it's all in the training.

The Pagan Federation works very hard to publicise Pagan beliefs. It is only in the past few years that Paganism has begun to be recognised by the "authorities"; at least it is so here in the UK. Now, even the police force accepts Paganism as a religion. Things are getting better, albeit very slowly! The problem, mainly, is defining what Paganism actually is. This is because so many people, and the media, "shout us down" when we use the real name; Witchcraft. When I tell people that I am a Pagan, they seem (reluctantly,it has to be said!) to accept it. If I told the truth, that I am a witch, most people would want me burnt at the stake!
