For a while i wanted to write this thread but have not had the willpower to bother sometimes but it has come to my attention that something like this needs to be wrote.
Impressions of magick
For some of you older folks in the community and even young ones can agree with me that lately the interests in magick with young folks are highly engrossed in either transformations into something that just can't be done. Or the summoning of demons and work of cursing. Put aside all religious beliefs, i want to forth a discussion as unbiased as possible to deal with the real issue at hand.
My concern is that allot of younger folks especially into magick are receiving falsified views or getting an impression that may not be intended. Apparently magick is now a rebellious tool, something for the miscreants of society, well that's how some people are projecting it to be.
Beside the mental enslavement of religion itself against anything concerning energy work, we as magickal practitioners in general are not doing much to revert it. Some people have the idea it is "better" this way and they should stay ignorant to magick completely, but i counter is is really better? ignorance? Look at what it has caused, thousands of people died during the witch trials, not that many of them were actual practitioners but the mere fact that ignorance was a main factor in this indicates that this way of thinking is not "better" in any way.
Youth and magick
Young people follow magick for many reasons, few lately i can honestly say follow it for the right reasons. Not only young people but many misguided people in the community.
what are the right reasons?
well there is no fixed list to be honest, but if you came to magick to :
harm your ex-girlfriend from dumping you
test it out to see if it works
To gain some kind of "ultimate power" and domination
control others around you
Befriend demons and other entities
and all other negative things you can think of then forget your desire to even cast a spell.
The universe has laws within it just like our world and countries have laws in which we follow. Laws are here to maintain order and stability, not all laws may be effective as they should but universal laws are always effective even if you don't understand how.
well i will rest here canceling my other thoughts allowing your comments to develop the rest of it
There are so many misguided impressions of magick on TV and in the movies that are leading so many people astray. Magick is not a glamorous, quick fix it all that others think it is. It is hard work, many months or even years of study, does not transform you into whatever mythical being that you want it to be, cannot change your physical appearance, and is not guaranteed.
Judging by the amount of spells that so many here have asked for, I hope that more read your article and take it to heart.
I disagree with this. These are not the ethics of magic, they are your ethics. People can come to magic for whatever reason they like, not just the reasons you deem acceptable. While people may be misinformed if they believe that they can shapeshift, I don't see how this is related to ethics, magical or otherwise.
This runs along the lines of what I tried to say in my post "All the Creatures", many people will object to you trying to set guidelines, it seems that "freedom" no matter how twisted, is more important to them then rules, or laws. I think some of the people on this site feel it is their right to use magic any damn way they want to without believing in consequences, or having any concerns about the misuse of energy, and they certainly don't even want to think of ethics. Well kiddies, grow up!!! Magic has rules, and is guided by natural laws if not by mans. If you play with electricity without knowing your parameters you will get shocked, and maybe worse. I would like to see more Adults on this site act like Adults, and take the time to help guide the young, the misinformed, the newbies, to a intelligent discussion of magic, and related subjects. Thank you for your post, it was long overdue, and much needed.Rilke
Thank you rilke, that is all i am trying to get across to people, these are not my rules but the rules of the universe and if you cannot abide by it then do not practice magick. I may sound harsh but your misuse of energy causes problems in the universe that someone needs to clean up after you, not to mention the negative karma that you will attract to your self. This is for you own good, abide by the laws understand it and everything in your life will be so much better, no need to curse the universe saying ''why me?'' listen and learn from your mistakes.
While I see no problem with befriending demons or any other being, I will say that starting out with that as the main intention and reason to practice magick is dangerous to say the least.
Having said that, I don't think the universal laws are as conscious as described here or in later posts.
Yes, some things in magick cannot be done for the pure simple fact that it goes against laws of science. I don't, however think there is a cosmic being watching your every move.
Personally, I believe in cause and effect. If I do harm to others, we could stretch the idea of karma and say that it was the individuals karma from another action and I was the vessel who unknowingly enforced it. I don't buy it, but someone might :P
I do think people need to stop and think about their reasons to begin magick in the first place to make sure they are not only plausible outcomes, but that they will not feel remorse for later on. Those of us who have been at this a bit longer, pretty much understand what we're getting ourselves into.

The laws of the universe don't really care whether you are casting a curse or using positive energy to heal. They don't really care if you are invoking a demon to bind it to your will through Goetic magic or simply summoning a spirit to learn more, and yes, even "befriend" it in your own fashion. The laws of the universe are merely cause and effect and have nothing to do with "ethics." Ethics are the result of the interpretation of man, or sometimes spiritual entity, saying "this is right," or "this is wrong."
Cultures with very different views will often have very different views on Ethics. For example, did the Samurai culture view killing as something that was morally wrong? Or did it view killing as another aspect to life, honor, and their own spiritual path? Those would be the code of ethics of the samurai. I'd like to think that your code ethics results in you rather being opposed to killing in most circumstances, having little to do with honor and such.
Do not mistake personal and cultural morality with the laws of the universe.
And this gets further confusing, as some cultures will believe in Karma while others won't. Others believe in the 3-fold law while others don't. Some believe in simple physics. Some believe in Divine Judgement. These factors are all born of personal belief and cultural concepts. Therefore you will not find any such concept that everyone will agree on as within these cultures the ethical guideline is most frequently viewed as cosmic law.
This site blends many takes on magick, and not all of it will have the same view as yours. I certainly agree that much of the nonsense on here is poorly written at best or at worst entirely fictitious. But remember too that at the molecular level the very laws of physics, and therefore the very laws of physics, stop behaving in a matter that scientists can accurately predict.
This being the case, who is to say that any of us and our ill-defined concepts are truly correct in attempting to define the laws of such an esoteric concept as magick?
and what makes you think the universe does not care what you do? everything has an effect some way or the other this is why so many lightworkers and sages are here to help guide people, but apparently they are hell bent on doing as they please and think that nothing is wrong in what they do. I am not saying that the universe is holding a big stick over your head but you must be mindful of what you do, everything has laws that hold structure it may not be perceived or understood properly but indeed they are not even near the function of third density thinking, it is much more than that for it has been constructed by more enlightened beings, and until one reaches such a point only then they can fully comprehend but it is not impossible as you are now to remove the fetters of the mind and see what is before you.
