I taught my daughter the days of the week extremely easily through planets. She loves astronomy and it made her passionate about learning the days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc) when I showed her that they were "Moon day" "Mars day" "Mercury day" etc. Once she learned them by planet, I made a poster of the planets next to the names of the days. She picked them up immediately.
Now I'm having trouble getting her to memorize the months of the year. I've done some research (into origin) and found inconsistenty in them. For instance January has Janus and June has Juno...but December comes from "ten". =(
So I'm thinking of doing it by a different system -- not origins but something else that would trigger her interest.
Any ideas? I was hoping for something educational and equally useful, be it mythological, magickal, astrological, or cultural. Since most pagans went off the moon and our calendar is the sun, I'm at a loss for ideas.
I was hoping I could incorporate a bit of knowledge that would facilitate raising her with a worldview of beliefs. She loves learning about mythology and spirituality.
I'm very open with any ideas because although I will show her my ways and tell her what I believe, I teach her to think for herself. I want her to have the knowledge of ALL ways and beliefs, so that when she grows up, she can choose for herself.
You could focus on one month at a time. You could do a basic summary of every month and get her interested, or just ask her which one she wants to learn about. If you don't like that you could look up a sing along.
I got a nice idea, the zodiac. They are constellations and you can show her the constellations and be like, "Capricorn, December!" Then show her a snowflake or something.
Besides, that way she can learn the zodiac by heart and if she ever gets into writing, that'd help her with making believable characters! Oh and not to mention, it can help with divination. c:
Good luck~ She sounds like a bright little girl ^.^
I looked them up, and this iswhat they are,Jan= janu's month, feb=month of februa (A purification festival)mar=mar's month, april=aphrodite's month, may=maia's month, june= juno's monthjuly=julius ceasar's month, aug= augustus ceasar's month, sept= 7th month,oct=8th month, nov=ninth month,dec=10th month. from here the ball is in your court, some have astrological ideology the may tie in with astronomy and the planets.

Sun signs are an excellent idea Frapp! Thank you so much! I definitely think I'll go with that. Especially since they're constellations--my daughter loves the stars! I should have thought of that. Thanks again. She's going to be thrilled. I have a star map too, so I can show them to her in the night sky.
I will also incorporate any deities like Juno and Janus, but on the side. Thank you Rogelio. I just know my daughter, once I tell her about some months being named after gods/goddesses she'll be disappointed that they all aren't "cool".
