Hi I have read the basics of practising magic and I still have trouble trying to meditate and clearing my mind. I have realised that I tend to overthink things and when I try to concentrate and do the other things I'm supposed to do to get my grounding I think of something so tiny all my hardwork goes out the window. Am I doing something wrong or I think to myself am I destined to practise this art? I really wud love sum help or advice because I have always had a keen interest in practising magic. All help is welcome because when I begin on something that I love I never give up, so please help :):) thank you and blessed be
I have the same problem. I have learned making myself comfortable is the first thing I do. Getting into a comfortable position. Close your eyes. Focus on a place that you would like to visit, have visited prev./or on a vacation. Work in small time blocks and increase as you go. Make a log of practice, covering each step you perform. If it doesnt work, or you feel something is out of sorts-try again. Practice makes perfect. I am new as well. My mind goes 90 mpm. This is what helps me. I hope I have given you some tools. thank you for that sound advice n last night I gave it a try n it workd for a whole 30minz wich was pretty relaxing so im going to do it again tonight. I find that night time is more comfortable for me. So once again than thank you and blessed be
Hey Jolz, i think I know your problem. Meditation is difficult at first, it's just like anything else though, with practice comes perfection. You just need to meditate everyday for at least 10 minutes, even 5 if you find it too much.
Also, after reading your post, you seem to be overthinking the situation, which meditation is the EXACT opposite. There is a quote from zen teachings that I love, and should help. "Zen philosophy is to not ponder life and existence while peeling the potatoe, Zen philosophy is to just peel the potatoe."
Get it? Don't think about meditating, the spirituality behind it, let all things go, let your conscious go blank, and enjoy the sweet bliss that is experiencing the purity of just existing.
When meditating, focus on your breathing, inhale for 3 seconds, wait 3 seconds, then exhale for 3 seconds. Focus on it, and when a thought comes in your mind, interrupting the process, don't force it away, simply be aware of it being there, and forget about it.
I realize the last sentance is confusing, not forcing it, but at he same time just letting it go, I didn't understand it until a couple nights ago, when I realized forcing my eratic thoughts down was simply making meditation harder.
Simply let go of everything......
Also, If you are meditating while experiencing a lot of negative feeling or worrying about day-to-day things, it will be much harder.

Hello Jolz, I found the best way to meditate is by chanting. I converted from Catholicism to Buddhism some years back. As I will always keep this Buddhist life style I have found myself opening new door and exploring new possibilities.
Chanting will put you in a state of meditation... You will have thoughts and images appear within your mind, this is normal! It is your body and mind releasing stress. If your chanting or meditating, these thoughts and images WILL appear! Just dismiss them and refocus your mind.
You will have to do this over and over again. It is very natural and will happen ANYTIME your in a deep state of meditation. Don't get discouraged. Keep up the good work and remember to refocus when thoughts appear.
For mei listen to the tails from the vienna woods by Strauss, I find it very relxing and I drift away into my meditation. It works for meyou would have to find something to take your mind to a different peaceful place.

I cannot meditate efficiently unless I perform conscious relaxation beforehand. Conscious relaxation was introduced to me through Rodney Yee's (yoga practicioner of 17 yrs) videos. If you want any more information just message me and let me know.
i got a solution for you i am a real witch let me guide you k its simple to meditate, just play you some meditation music you get lost in take 5 in hales and 6 out calm your body energys then think about being connected to the universe as one then lose your self your just a being, then fill your inter energy flow of life this is a good first step try this please..
