About believing in magic

I'm Chris and I'm new to spell casting and never done it before but Ive always been interested in it. But I did buy a spell book to read to see what it was like, but never used it to cast. But they say you must believe in magic for it to work but Ive never seen a spell or ritual ever in real life. I want to believe and I believe it exists but I don't know if its strong enough. Hard to believe when you have never experienced it. So how did anybody here feel when they first started what made you really believe the spells can work?

working properly drawn up spells. also, very much depends on the personal power of the magician, and due to the higher powers. A lot comes with experience. And faith in the result certainly is a major

All else aside if you 'don't' believe then why would a spell you cast manifest ? Belief as well as a properly done spell and your own power is what powers a spell ( aside from other things that you MUST learn FIRST ) If you saw one, why would that make a difference as most spells DONT manifest at the casting site ? I 'know' spells work because I've felt things and seen things. You know about gravity and how it works but do you see it work ? It's an 'unseen' force just like magic. Believe......

Sry for late reply I forgot I posted. But what you says true but you yourself said youve felt it and seen it regardless if its at the casting site or not I know gravity is there because it pulls us. And I believe I just want to get stronger in it.

Heres how I first started believing. I had made a rune sequence for good luck on a test I wasn't prepared for, and then I felt this incredible swoosh in my body. The next day the teacher's computer had crashed and I had an extra day to cram.

Then after losing my aversion to casting spells on other people but before I learned that love magic could be evil, I tried making a rune sequence to help a friend get together with this girl who he liked for a really long time. He and another boy in class had the same initials and I noticed this during the spell and I lost a bit of focus. Again I felt a swoosh and the results weren't pretty. That boy developed a serious crush on the girl out of nowhere. I must have put the runes in the wrong order and the lack of focus didn't help. I destroyed the amulet and did spells to get rid of it. It took a week for the spell to pass. I've never done that kind of magic again, but I'm pretty sure it works.

Also I never believed in divination until I started doing it for myself. My cards are simply uncanny.

My advice is doing everything possible to boost a spell before you cast it. It forces your mind to believe it'll work after all the effort. That means keep track of the day of the week, the moon phase, add your candles, meditate and center yourself, and cast a circle. Then do your spell. At the end say "So mote this be" or if your working with runes chant ALU(Ansuz Laguz Uruz). I just love that tingle of power when the spell starts working. Of course by the end of your spell open your circle

Personally, I grew up with it, so believing in magick wasn't something I struggled with. I would suggest checking out witchvox.com and maybe visiting an event such as a Sabbat gathering (Beltaine is May 1st) so you can witness it first hand. If you're unable to do that, then the next possible way to "believe" is just learning all you can about it. There is a book called the un-spell book that is one person's opinion on how magick works, it may help you to gain an understanding of it. http://www.llewellyn.com/product_browse_inside.php?ean=9780738723389
This author also wrote another one previous to this that is also a beginner's guide. I've flipped through the Un-Spell Book before and it looked like it was well written and thought out.

You don't really need belief in "magick" just yourself. The placebo effect, mind over matter, etc are all scientifically documented facts. The mind is a powerful thing and can perform amazing things. Your mind is the key to making magick work, so believing in your own abilities is important.

I remember as a kid, I would put my hand in hot water and force myself to believe it was cold. And vice versa, put my hand in chilled water and force myself to believe it was hot. I did it because even at a young age, I realized that I could change my own perceptions. I can't remember what provoked me to do this. When I began to practice magick, I took the same concept of focus and will and applied it. If you try this just make sure you don't put your hand in for too long or make the water too hot or cold (I used water from the tap)! Just because you may make yourself believe it isn't hot or cold doesn't mean it can't hurt you.

When I began to seriously practice magick, I was already confidant in my own mind. It helped of course that I also had a mother and aunt that practiced, and I witnessed some of their work. They also let me feel the energy off of their hands.

You really have to believe it will work. You have to "know" in your heart that no matter what the spell will be real. It takes some imagination, heart, and concentration. You'll get it eventually you just have to have faith in magick.
