The difference/relationship between Witchcraft and Wicca is the same as between prayer and Christianity.

Wiccans use magic, but magic and Wicca are not the same thing, and quite incorrectly called Wicca is a form of magic.

A witch is anyone who casts spells. Even Satanists and Christians could be considered witches if they cast spells and do magic, but they aren't Wiccan because they follow a different religion than Wiccans. A Wiccan is someone who follows the religion of Wicca, which is an officially recognized religion just like Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Buddhism. If you get nothing else from this, remember that "Wicca" is the name of the religion and "Wiccans" are the followers of Wicca. So you wouldn't say, "I have a friend who is Wicca." Instead, you would say that your friend is Wiccan.

According to the Wiccan Rede, which are the rules that Wiccans abide by, Wiccans are not supposed cast harmful spells. The Wiccan Rede says, "And ye harm none, do what ye will."

Someone who claims to be a "witch" but who is not "Wiccan" is not following the religion of Wicca. Therefore, they do not have to follow the rede. So they can throw curses at you from across the room.

If you think you want to be Wiccan, or you want to know the difference in Wicca and witchcraft, here are some useful pages to read that explain the difference:

Wicca is a fixed path or a religion if you prefer and it is considered a modern form of paganism since it was introduced by Gerald Gardner during the 50s and early 60s

Witchcraft is the practise. Spells, rituals and particular beliefs. Most of the wiccans practise witchcraft Most of the times people who practise it are pagans but not neccessarly wiccans. All wiccans are pagans but not all pagans are wiccans.

(Although we use the term witch to describe a wiccan at times)

Witchcraft is a form of magical practice . It can be practiced by those of any religion and also those who aren't religious.

Wicca is a very specific modern religion whose roots go back for centuries but which was formulated in the 1940's by Gerald Gardner. Wicca includes the practice of witchcraft in what it does, and Gerald Gardner referred to those who practiced Wicca as Witches. But Wicca is much more than simply about magic and spell-casting.

The simplest way to understand it is that all Wiccans are Witches but not all Witches are Wiccan.

Wiccans and witches are like squares and rectangles

A square is alway a rectangle

A wiccan is almost always a witch (its almost impossible to find one who is unwillilng to practice some form of ritual)

But a rectangle is not necassarily a square

But a witch is not necassarily a wiccan.

They can be shamanistic, deistic, voudun, pagan, even christian though its kind of iffy.
