I know that some of you think or say that demons are bad and never should summon them. Well, not all demons are bad. There are some that are good like angels for example, but if you don't agree then that's fine. :)
Now, summoning demons can be dangerous at times depending on what type of demon. For those of you who summoned and got attacked by one either you didn't do the summoning right, give an offer that you didn't give, or a good possibility that you could of summon something else different then the demon of your choice or something different than that. For those of you that were successful you could teach the ones who want to try again.
For those who wants to summon a demon and your not sure, you could summon something else other than demons and for those who really want to, be careful. Make sure you research about the demon of your choice before you summon it. That's all that I got to say. May the stars guide you. :)
I agree, calling or attracting is much better than summoning. When you 'summon', you're basically ripping the entity from it's place to come aid you. It wouldn't be too pleased, especially if you didn't give it anything in return.
I own a demon vessel myself, as well as I do angel communication exercises. Demons help humans because they feel it makes them more pure. A number of demons wish to not be seen as evil, and thus want to become angels.
Demons are more than willing to help you physically with your problems, and be ordered (Of course, the stronger demons are less likely to listen to detailed explanations...)
Angels are more like counselors. They listen to your problems and give you suggestions. They don't do anything physically for you.
The idea that you're "ripping them away" when you summon a being comes from the misconception that they have a singular manifestation like we do. This is clearly not the case as proven by the fact that two people in two different locations can both perform the LBRP at the same time and have the appropriate angels respond.
That is true, but only for angels and specific demons. The lower demons and angels, whom aren't quite known (Basically, the citizens and don't have much power/authority) are the ones who only have one form. As such, you cannot contain say, an archangel into a vessel. You can, however, contain an angel who cannot split into multiple forms.

It's important to remember that spirits have their own goals in mind, frequently. They may be of little consequence to their interaction with you, or you might somehow interfere with them, or you might be a useful tool in achieving them. How the spirit, demon, angel, etc. interacts with you will often correlate with such goals.
Regardless of such things, I find that spirits in general possess a response to being summoned (or your presence) not unlike that of most animals... which only makes sense, as they are a frequently a more primal essence of the universe, rather unfettered by the somewhat unnatural rules imposed by culture and society.
Present yourself with confidence and strength, though not as a threat. Do not display your fear, if you are afraid, or your anger, if you are upset. Indeed, if you are unfamiliar with the spirit, being reserved and formal is your best bet. Such behavior establishes you as the alpha, after a fashion, or at the very least an equal that is worthy of respect. This is more the reason behind the rituals of "binding" and "summoning" than many of the more superstitious claims that you'll find floating around these forums; the effort put forth, the respect shown, and similar such qualities demonstrate a strength of presence that can command respect.

@Chiron and Embrace
A lower spirit might be contained or otherwise bound to a specific place as you suggestion, however their essence and consciousness are still rooted within the spiritual, making their complete binding a rather slippery thing sometimes.
In terms of the "higher" spirits, I find that they can often divide their focus, almost fracturing their own spirits or otherwise casting forth their consciousness and will through creations not unlike servitors.
