Does anyone know if its normal to have good connections with the gods. In my case ones from ancient Greece. I ve had strong and very ...lucid connections with the deities of Dionysus and most recently Hecate (who I now honor and love with all my heart). Is there any type of fathomable reason for this? I was adopted and am not 100% sure of my genetic background I don't think I m part Greek but I could be who knows? I do love Greek food and it is my favorite however. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Gods do what they do. So yes its normal. They choose to connect with those they find worthy you could say or that show the same attributes that they do. I don't think genetic code has anything to do with it though past life experiences if you believe in such things may very well. I used to be if my thoughts and visions are correct a Spartan so I have always felt drawn before I knew this to Zeuse and the Greek pantheon.
The gods are the powers of the unfathomable universe (all that is). But that doesn't mean they are not thinking, feeling beings. Dionysius was worshipped a lot like Jesus. There was a big following. If you believe in reincarnation, you may consider that you lived during the time of his worship and he is merely calling you back to him.
Another possible reason is simply the law of attraction (like attracts like), we naturally feel a pull toward those like us, so as was said above me, you may share similarities to the deities you feel closest with.
However on the topic of Hecate/Lilith. I've noticed something and others have to. Hecate/Lilith has been attracting, and in my opinion, has been calling to people. Many including myself, have felt a sudden pull to her without understanding it. Even with no prior interest. I'm not even going to guess why. I don't think we are "special" I just believe we are "open" and accepting of her therefore we feel her call. I highly suggest working with her, she is up to something important.
They say the gods are only as strong as the belief of them. Their believers give them strength to influence on the physical plane. So maintaining a more personal connection with followers benefits them. They want you to know they're there to reinforce your faith, which reinforces their strength. They help you and you help give them the energy they need to do their work. After a while of loyalty from you, most deities really do gain a personal attachment to, like a parent to a child and sometimes after years/lifetimes of commitment, they consider it a close friendship.
The same deities go by various names depending on culture. So you may wish to look into that.
thank you all for the insight. I do share many of the same traits with Hecate and she seems like an absolutely "perfect fit" for me especially at this point in my life. Maybe Dionysus came to me because he knows of my wild side.
Blessings,
Matt
Dionysius is far more complicated than his popular description as a "partier". Although there is no doubt, this deity knows how to celebrate, his worship was wide spread and what he maintains/manages and the literature surrounding him is vast. He despised disrespect and despite loving peace, he would cause madness and even death to those who angered him.
I love this website. It is THE best source on greek mythology I have ever come across and I find myself going back to it again and again. I highly suggest bookmarking it or memorizing the name "theoi.com"
