The Christians were trying to get rid of the pagans back then. This is where their holidays were born and such to get more pagans to their hands. Well that was enough and wasn't so they took out Goat One (The male version of Gaia) and said he was Lucifer. Of course we know the rest, going to hell, being damned and such.
I really do not believe in Hell or Heaven so there is no reason for me to believe in their God or Satan version of the Goat One.
The concept of Lucifer was already created before they were trying to convert pagans. What you mean, is the current physical image of him was made to resemble a Pagan God; in this case, Pan. Pan had horns to symbolize his connection with the animals, as well as the hooves on his feet.
Personally, I believe that Lucifer still WORKS WITH Yahweh. Even though the Christian God threw him out, Lucifer is still trying to do God's job better than him. He isn't sending sinners into an eternal pit of fire, or tormenting humans. He's helping the deseased to be rehabilitated, so their next life is less sinful.
Lucifer is, according to Christianity, an Angel who rebelled against god, leading an army of angels against his reign. Lucifer was supposedly God's right-hand man, he was vain, and he loved God. However, he thought he could do better. The word "Lucifer" means "bringer of illumination" or something close to that. Since he rebelled, him and his angels were cast out of heaven and into hell. At that point he became Satan, and his angels became demons.
So, while Satan is "evil", Lucifer isn't. And even though his moral alignment has been changed from "good" to "evil" his character has stayed largely the same. In the bible, the snake which tempted Eve was Satan, displaying a very Lucifer trait. Trying to bring knowledge, to banish shadows of ignorance and all that. Honestly, I kind of view Satan as a friend of humanity. We were both cast from the good graces of God (according to Christianity) via disobedience, so our processes of "Sin" help him out, and his trying to liberate us into our own spiritual rule is him helping us :P Although, that liberation is referred to as Damnation by the Abrahamic religions.
It is true, though, that many of the "demons" were actually pagan gods made evil by the Catholic church.

Minuit, no offense, but show me ancient text that explains what you said. It doesn't exist! There is nothing that brings up Lucifer as a fallen angel or that Lucifer is Satan anywhere but the mouths of Christians.
To me the whole Lucifer = fallen angel or Lucifer = Satan is as ridiculous as saying the toothfairy exists and is also Jack Frost because I say so.
Lucifer is the morning star, venus, a god, and means "light bringer". "Lux/luce" " ferous/fer". And the sections of the bible with "Lucifer" was translated from hebrew to latin erroneously. No one ever believes me, so I finally found this.

I'm sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but Lucifer the angel is a thing of fiction. If you're looking for real names of fallen angels, look into the Book of Enoch.
No offense taken, Whit3Raven ^_^ People are wrong, I'm not exception. I've just always heard that story, and I never thought to look into it more.
I've heard Lucifer in relation to Venus, before, as the morning star. I knew his name itself meant something along the lines of "light bringer" (as I said) but I didn't know he was a god in any religion other than Satanism, which isn't particularly ancient. Not any more so than Christianity, I would think.
but, while there might not be any texts that refer to Lucifer in the way that I've mentioned, is it not the words of people who write history? Lucifer may not have been a fallen angel in the past, but he most certainly is today. According to others than just myself. And, if there are those who choose not to believe that, so be it, but I do.
Out of curiosity, though, how did you discover those facts?
