Sleeping & Astral Travel

I have started reading up on Astral Travel. I was told that I Astral Travel in my sleep by a psych. Not sure how true that is. I was wondering if it is possible to Astral Travel while you sleep? And if so does that take away from the purpose of sleeping? The Psych said that my lack of sleep is due to Astral Traveling every night my body isn't getting rest (not sure if she meant physical, or spiritual). Could someone help me figure out what she meant? Or if this is even possible?

P.S. If it is possible and it affects lack of rest, is there a way to stop it so you can sleep?

yes, you can astral travel when asleep, in fact that is what most people do. If you are astral projecting conciously at night more than every once in a while, it can be exhausting for your spirit. But it will not affect your physical body. If you can not help it, then just try meditating, or grounding throughout the day.

It can be actually a fairly tricky question to ask, and very confusing. Dreams are not a form of astral projection, never confuse the two. Astral projection is a form of astral travel, one of three...
Astral projection is when some portion (there are different names for the process) of your conscious and subconscious split from your physical body. Dreams are completely in your head, you don't go anywhere.

In order to astral project, you simply project, and no dreaming ! These are two different things, so I wouldn't waste too much time to try exploring methods which obviously won't work.

However, if you still want, you can learn about the association between astral projection to dreams, however bare in mind that it still won't give you a possibility to astral project from dreaming by any meaning.

Think about two kinds of astral projection; conscious and unconscious. In conscious astral projection the person becomes aware of the subtle body when it is separated out of the physical body. In unconscious astral projection, the astral body separates but the person is not aware of it.

So from that, astral projection as we normally use the terms means only being conscious during an astral projection. Each time the physical body sleeps, the astral body separates but we are not always conscious of the separation.

There is a term which is called "lucid dreaming" which is also a kind of dreaming, and this is what you asked about. Lucid dreaming means that you become aware of the astral world even when your astral body has not been displaced out of the physical system. In that case your mind is totally attuned to the astral body and is not specifically aware of the physical one, only slightly aware of it.

Regarding if dreams are different to astral projections that depends on what you mean by dream.

Dreams which are merely ideas in your mind which appear to be real to you in that state is not astral projection. But you can be in an astral projection and interpret the experience as just a dream, as just your imagination at work, while in fact it is an experience in an objective astral world

It's my opinion that astral projection, dreaming and lucid dreaming are intertwined in the same locale. The difference between dreams, projection and lucid dreaming is what is at the controls (the conscious mind or the subconscious mind). Even if you get the vibrations and roll out of your physical body, you will end up "dreaming" very quickly if you don't know what you're doing. People say, "I failed because I fell into a dream." Well, no you didn't, you just gave up conscious control to the subconscious mind which makes the experience totally different!
But yet, astral projecting and just dreaming are not the same things as I said. But there is a connection between them for sure. You may want to look for definitions in google about the terms "astral projection","dreaming" and if you want also check for "lucid dreaming".

As I said, even though they stand close to each others by terminology, it won't make it the same. You should probably learn about the main differences.

Generally when we first learn to astral travel we make our first journeys by sleeping. Our spirit gets up and does it's thing and usually these are the dreams that are the most vivid and we remember them easly. The act of our spirit moveing out and about consumes energy sleeping or not so yes it takes away from your deep sleep and energy renewal. The counter to this is to erect a circle around you while you sleep. This keeps bad things out but also has the great aspect of keeping energy ie. you and your spirit in. Try it and see if it helps.
