Three that I can remember are.

This is my favorite. If you ware your shirt wrong side out you are scared of witches lol

Never set your purse on the floor or it will always be empty.

Never let your shoes be upside down or you will be in a fight

Oh and to yours about the black cat crossing your path. If you turn your hat backwards it will cancel out the bad luck

It would be so cool to find the origins of these beliefs. Are you going to research into that? Many of the old wives tales I grew up with was used to instill discipline, like not leaving a drawer open because you will call death into the family if you do. Who will ever leave a drawer open after that?

Others that stays with you forever:
* A bee in the house before twelve means good luck, but bad luck after.
*You are supposed to invert a piece of clothiing at noon if you put it on the wrong way round in the morning.
*If you kill a frog it's going to rain.
*If you come home after midnight you should enter with your back so the ghosts think you are going out and don't follow you in (don't know what self respecting ghost will fall for that one, but we did it anyway).

In the book The Secret Life of Bees, the main characters stand-in mother tells her that "Bees only swarm before death." She says this because the girl is seeing a swarm of bees in her room every night.
Many of these superstitions, for all intensive purposes, no longer have any origin - there are many that were popularized by books or cinema. A good bet though is that many of them came about due to old beliefs about certain animals and insects, as well as due to books that became popular and then died out quickly.

I was told as a kid that if a bird flew into your home it was a bad omen, there would be a death in the family.

bumble bees bring news.Black cats are bad luck, braking a mirror is seven years of bad luck,If you wear your clothes inside out you will ward off evil,When entering your house at night walk in backwards to keep the demons away,If your being bad you will get sent to the blacksmith who will pull your tongue out,Owls are bad omens,do not point when you are passing a morgue you will upset the dead, don't use yourself to show how a person was hurt (draw a line on your leg saying that part got cut off)it will make you get injured in the similar like if you do so you must spit on the ground in-front of you,do not cross over anyone it will stunt there growing.
Those are the popular old wife sayings in Trinidad that I grew up believing in like crazy.
Blessed be
K
