^_^ I actually use magick mostly (meaning only) for personal gain.. O_O so mostly the ones who are against it or do not agree on such use are the ones of the new age (if that is the term) but I am more of what they might call traditional.... ^_^

From the few texts that I have seen I have not seen the words do not use for personal gain, only that if you do so then it can cause undesireable effects, however, you have to help yourself first in order to learn how, and be able to help others!!

Take it as one will and from this define personal gain!!

It is not just from this site that I have heard that, but from another not on this site, they said and seen in text that you incorporate others into it. Ie good well being and health, one candle for you, one for friends and family that need it and another for the world. So personal gain becomes ok when its not soley for oneself.

Llewellyn's World Magic Series, Celtic Magic by D.J. Conway

"They also know that when you can do for yourself, it is seldong that another person will be abe to manipulate or control you against your will."

"To those who seek, success and growth will dome. Success will be visable in the improvemne of life itself.
Pagan-thinking people do not tend tobe followers of the acdepted social norm. they are innovators, thinkers, perusuers of wisdom and spiritual growth. They know that improving you, the person and your imemediate ilfe si as imprtamnt as perfecting the spriritual you, or the soul. A well-balances personality and a successful life, by whatever terms you define success, is the true guidepost along the ancient paths. Striving for thesse worthy goals and getting there are what really matters, not the opinions of others."

a member here actually told a newer practitioner that a spell wouldnt work because of "personal gain"....thats what i mean when i say that people shouldnt state thier opinion as fact.

so your answer begs the question.....what texts have you been reading....im not talking about online articles. im talking about ancient texts.

again, you referenced a site without telling us which one...and who is they? what text did they see?

ps. thats a book on the celts right??? thats a race/religion...im talking on magick in general.

Well the ones who talk of personal gain are those who got interested in the Craft from watching Charmed. You cannot take EVERYTHING seriously in that show.

I don’t see anything wrong.

Where’s the source making this negative simply because it is personal? It’s illogical. When people think about this the deeper they discuss they think they are correct but then can you tell me an established fact/rule that is non-religious that can testify to that claim? I love my logics…… of course there MUST be some established (occult)? Law that I can look up…. I thought so too, when I realize I was reading into religious concepts. But I think it’s stupid, how/why you can do every other magick in the world but some anonymous source will make it negative for personal gains?

The quotes were from the book quoted above, the ISBN number if you are interested is: 0-87542-136-9

Llewellyn Publications St. Paul, MN 55164-0383

And yes it is about Celtic relgion folklore and stuff. Quite a handy book really for me, it was this that told me I was celtic as I realised thats how I felt and went about doing things.

however the booke quoted on doesn't just talk about it as Celtic but refers to the similarities and indifferences with paganism.

actually 'the Charmed' carried a lot of message to 'us' the one who is going to practice witchcraft...
i'm saying so is because we can addicted when we uses magick for our own benefits and personal gain...
no doubt, we also can see 'the Charmed' uses the magick for personal gain...
anyway, i think there's no harm in using magick for personal gain, but not to the extend.

I use magick for personal gain, however I believe you shouldnt use it frivolously.. Like, my prosperity spell has a 100% success rate, but I don't think I should be doing it every day or something, because I don't always NEED money. I'll admit I mostly use it for stupid occasions, however I still try to have some responsibility.
