Though this question is asked ten thousand times a day I'll answer with the default answer.

Learn your basics. Go go the Newbie Central click Tips. Do you people not read the letter you received when you first joined? It has all you need for that particular situation.

Start by reading and researching the spell you wish to cast, Then start practicing casting. :note, spells that have to do with changing identy or gender do not work.
Spellwork takes concentration and intent, try meditation excersises and purification rituals before and after attempting a spell, just in case any negative energies linger. I perfer to make my circle before I do any spellwork. -Melody
