A teacher is not required. Go outside, feel the energy that powers magick around you. See the magick as it plays out everyday.

Read some books by reputable authors (Cunningham, Buckland, Phyllis Currot, etc)

work with the 'basics' (meditation, energy manipulation, grounding, centering, visualization, etc)

learn what magick can and can not do

Much of this can be done with out the aid of a teacher, after you have learned more and have specific questions or a specific path in mind, than search out a teacher, or just ask questions of those you know on the path (why limit yourself to one opinion)
