"Coming Out"

I'm still in the broom closet. There are only about three people that know I do some form of alternative practice, but there's only one person who knows the full extent of everything. I know that January 15 is national coming out of the broom closet day, but I don't think I'm ready this year. I still live with my parents and go to a conservative Christian college, and I don't want to get kicked out. Is there anyone else planning to come out on this day, or at least tell one person?

It took me a while before I could tell my parents anything. They're conservative Christians and raised me that way for years. When I started to feel lost, the Triple Moon Goddess caught my attention and I knew what it was I needed in my life. It was hard to tell my parents that I didn't believe the way they did. My step mother pretty much shunned me. After some time went by, they finally decided that no matter what I believed, I was still their daughter. What it turned out to be was they were worried that I wouldn't be safe in my afterlife because I didn't follow God. It came down to me having to explain that I feel safe on this path. This is what I feel is right. No harm is done to others, and I'm still the same person. I'm sure your family truly loves you. And will continue to do so no matter what.

I only tell it people when I know that they are spiritual too and I don't think they would tell other people about my believes.

I'm open about my path to everyone but my parents because, they would not be very happy. And as I'm young they would think I don't know what I am talking about. Some things can be better left for a later time so if you don't feel like it's right, don't pressure yourself. But when you feel as though you really want to tell them, don't be too stressed about it. Tell them about the similar things in your path to theirs, and remember you don't have to go into extreme depth about things you don't think they'd understand.

I have known many mothers (and fathers) in my lifetime. Some worry a great deal about what their kids are up to. The main worry for parents whose children declare a belief is that of the "weird", brain-washing cults; and there are many of them!I have also heard many a mother make a remark such as, "She'll grow out of it." or "It's just a phase he's going through; he'll forget it when he grows up."
Only one ever came screaming to the Pagan group, shouting that we had "seduced" her 20 year old daughter!
If you tell your parents, honestly and gently, that you haven't changed, that only your beliefs have changed, they will usually accept it. Of course, many will also try to tell you that you are wrong; some even forbid! But that is their fear! And understandable. So, if you are sure your parents will object, keep it secret until you are older.
